Mayfest Green Gallery Call for Entries

Tulsa, OK., March 1, 2011 – Tulsa International Mayfest is seeking entries from area artists to participate in the Mayfest Green Gallery: PaperView, art from repurposed, recycled, and reused paper materials.  This 2011 Mayfest specialty gallery has been created to showcase artwork created in the spirit of Tulsa’s sustainable future and is sponsored by Waste Management.

The visual arts exhibition will be held in the Park Centre Lobby (6th & Main) during Tulsa International Mayfest, from Thursday May 19th– Sunday May 22nd. There will be an opening reception on May 19th from 5-7 pm.

The Green Gallery was first displayed at Tulsa International Mayfest in 2010, and was inspired by Mayfest’s move towards a more sustainable festival and Tulsa’s development of a more sustainable future. Over twenty Tulsa artists repurposed a variety of materials from wood to textiles to electronics and the gallery was featured in a Tulsa World article.

This year’s gallery will focus on artwork made with reused, repurposed, or recycled paper products. Artists are required to write a short description of the origins and uses of their materials: creative material use is encouraged and expected. Awards will be given for Best Use of Material and Best in Show. Submissions are due on April 29th.  Please consider the limited gallery space when creating your submission – contact greengallery@tulsamayfest.org with questions about the suitability of artwork size and weight

All artwork submissions should be made via email, one image per email. Please put “Mayfest Green Gallery Submission” as the subject and provide artist name, phone number, email, title, media and price (if applicable) in the body of the email with each submission. Then, attach the image of your artwork to the email, no larger than 1 MB, and send to greengallery@tulsamayfest.org.  Please limit your submissions to two works.

Artists whose work is selected will be notified by email by May 2nd.  Please bring selected artwork to the Park Centre Lobby on May 14th from 10am -1pm. Each piece must be titled, clearly labeled with contact information and ready to hang with wire or d-rings and framed if appropriate. Any special equipment must be provided by the artist. Artwork sales will be referred to the artist. Please note that neither Tulsa International Mayfest nor Kanbar Properties are responsible at any time for the loss, damage or theft of artwork. Submission of artwork constitutes an agreement on the part of the artist to the conditions set forth in this prospectus and shall further include permission to reproduce work for publication.
