Mayor Bartlett to Speak at OSU-Tulsa’s Graduation Ceremony

City of Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett Jr. will serve as the keynote speaker for Oklahoma State University-Tulsa’s graduation ceremony on Monday, May 10, at 7 p.m. in The Pavilion at Expo Square.

OSU-Tulsa President Howard Barnett said the mayor is an admirable role model for students, both in terms of his commitment to public service and passion for the city.

“We are honored that Mayor Bartlett will speak at OSU-Tulsa’s graduation ceremony,” Barnett said. “Our graduates will benefit greatly from his insights and experiences as a successful businessman, public servant and elected official. He has had an interesting few months in office and I think he will have a valuable perspective to share with us.”

A native Tulsan, Bartlett graduated from Bishop Kelley High School. He received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Regis University and his master’s in business administration from Southern Methodist University.

Bartlett was elected Tulsa’s mayor in November 2009 and has been president of Tulsa-based Keener Oil and Gas Company since 1994. He is the eldest son of the late Oklahoma Governor and U.S. Senator Dewey Bartlett Sr.

During his business career, he has assumed numerous leadership positions, serving as a board member or chair for organizations throughout the state. He currently serves as chair of the Oklahoma Energy Resources Board and the national Stripper Well Association. He is also a former Tulsa City Councilor and former board member of the Tulsa Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Tulsa Community College Foundation.

Approximately 500 OSU-Tulsa undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to participate in this year’s graduation ceremony, Barnett said. Dr. Bradley Snow, associate director of bands for OSU and director of the OSU Cowboy Marching Band, will lead a pre-ceremony concert beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The Pavilion is located in mid-town Tulsa at 4145 E. 21st Street in the Fairgrounds. For more information or directions to the ceremony, call 918-594-8164 or visit www.osu-tulsa.okstate.edu.
