Mihaela Susa and Clarissa Andrews Qualify for NCAA Championship

AUSTIN, Texas – Mihaela Susa ran a time of 4:16.60 finishing fifth in the 1,500 meter run today to qualify herself for the next round of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Eugene, Oreg.

“She did what she needed to do,” Head coach Dave Smith said. “She ran with poise and confidence and ran like she was the third ranked girl in this event, because she is. I think she looks really good heading in to the national championships. I’m optimistic about her chances there.”

Clarissa Andrews notched a mark of 13.06 meters at the triple jump to finish sixth and secure her spot in the next round of the championship. This was Andrew’s season best attempt at the triple jump and a new school record. The record was previously held by Paula Ogunbanjo who had a mark of 12.89 meters at the 2005 Big 12 Championship.

“Clarissa has had an awesome year,” Smith said. “She went from being 40th in the region to seventh. She broke a school record tonight and beat her mark from the Big 12 Championships three times. She is just an unbelievable competitor.”

The Cowgirl track and field team will return to action June 9-12 for the next round in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship.
