Mimi’s Café Wants the ‘Write Stuff’

Since children possess a unique way of reminding us that there is an abundance of things for which we should be grateful, Mimi’s Cafés of Oklahoma are hosting their third annual “Write Stuff” essay-writing contest. Mimi’s Café is searching for first through sixth grade students in the Tulsa and Oklahoma City metro areas to participate. This year Mimi’s has raised the reward level and will provide each of the top three finalists with $1,000 Series EE U.S. Savings Bonds.

Featuring the theme, “What I have to be most thankful for,” the contest is open to all young students whether they are home-schooled or attend public or private institutions. Mimi’s will select 15 finalists who will receive a Mimi’s Café sweatshirt and complimentary dinner certificates. Their families will also be invited to a special pre-Thanksgiving meal at the restaurant.

Essays must be no more than one page in length and only one submission per student will be accepted. Each essay must include the child’s name, address, age, grade, school and home phone number. Entries without complete details will not be judged.

After the essays have been reviewed by a panel of judges, 15 finalists in three different categories (first/second graders, third/fourth graders and fifth/sixth graders) will be asked to read their submissions at a special luncheon at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at Mimi’s Café in Tulsa (northeast corner of 71st Street and Memorial Drive). Students submitting an essay must be able to attend this event in order to enter the contest.

“‘The Write Stuff’ has become a much-anticipated annual event that serves to help youngsters cultivate their writing skills and reminds adults of what truly is important in life,” remarked Russ Bendel, president of Mimi’s Café.

Essays must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1 to: The Write Stuff, care of Waller & Company Public Relations Inc., P.O. Box 521030, Tulsa, Okla. 74152; delivered to 2651 E. 21st St., Ste. 500; or emailed to mimis@wallerpr.com. For more information, call (918) 587-1909.
