Mueller Named Big 12 Golfer of the Month
NORMAN, Okla. – University of Oklahoma senior Ellen Mueller was named October’s Big 12 Golfer of the Month Wednesday. Mueller is the fourth Sooner to be awarded the title and first since Kendall Dye in April 2008.
“It’s an incredible honor,” said Mueller. “There are so many talented golfers in our conference and it feels very gratifying to be awarded this title.”
Mueller’s October resume consisted of multiple school records and career highs.
The Evansville, Ind., product claimed her first career individual title while leading OU to a first-place finish at the Dale McNamara Invitational in Owasso, Okla., as the Sooners finished 23 strokes ahead of second-place Oklahoma State and Texas. She fired a 54-hole total of 209 (-7), breaking the program record by two strokes. Mueller’s first-round score of 67 (-5) marked a career best and a course record at the Patriot Golf Club.
Earlier in the month, Mueller tied for third at the Johnie Imes Invitational with a score of 213 (-3), leading the Sooners to a second-place finish.
“Ellen’s been working hard all semester,” said OU head coach Veronique Drouin. “Her results on the golf course along with honors such as this are proof of her dedication and desire to improve. I’m excited to see how this confidence will roll over into the spring season.”
Mueller was also recently recognized as Golfweek’s Player of the Week. She is currently ranked 37th in the nation with a 71.30 stroke average.
As a team, the Sooners concluded their fall season ranked No. 15 in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, the highest of any Big 12 team. No. 20 Texas, No. 25 Colorado, No. 26 Iowa State, No. 32 Oklahoma State, No. 42 Texas A&M and No. 47 Texas Tech join Oklahoma in the top 50.
OU will resume play when it begins its spring season Feb. 13-15 at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic.
