No. 38 Tulsa Women’s Tennis Defeats Oklahoma State, 4-3
TULSA, Okla. – The 38-ranked Tulsa women’s tennis team defeated in-state rival No. 59 Oklahoma State, 4-3, on Tuesday afternoon at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The Hurricane has won four-straight matches and 11-out-of-12 dating back to Feb. 21
Tulsa (17-5) captured the doubles point from the Cowgirls with a pair of wins in the No. 2 and 3 positions.
Rebecca Row and Michelle Farley were off the court first with an 8-5 win over Sarah Meghoufel and Leyla Simmons in the No. 3 slot, but Nataliya Shatkovskaya and Alisa Buslaieva responded with an upset victory over 21-ranked JoAnne Karaitiana and Alexandra Kichoutkin, 8-3, in the top position. Anastasia Erofeeva and Ewa Szatkowska clinched the point for the Hurricane in the deciding match with an 8-5 win over Sasha Belova and Malika Rose the No. 2 flight.
Michelle Farley gave Tulsa a 2-0 lead with a dominating 6-0, 6-0 victory against Alexandra Cristello in No. 6 singles, before Oklahoma State got on the scoreboard with a win from Sarah Meghoufel over Ewa Szatkowska, 6-1, 6-3, in the No. 4 position.
Anastasia Erofeeva gave TU a 3-1 lead with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Nataliya Shatkovskaya in the No. 2 flight, but the Cowgirls answered again with Sasha Belova defeating JoAnne Karaitiana, 6-2, 6-4, in the No. 3 position, cutting the Hurricane lead to 3-2.
-ranked Alexandra Kichoutkin battled through a tough second set to seal the TU win with a 6-2, 7-6 (4) decision over Alisa Buslaieva in the No. 1 flight.
Tulsa returns to the court against Oral Roberts on Sunday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The start time for the match has not been set.
