Nonprofit Helps Students
Independent Youth a new non-profit organization in Tulsa is beginning an Academy this summer to empower students interested in starting their own businesses.
This new organization focuses on teaching students the fundamentals of business ownership while bringing awareness to the importance of entrepreneurship. The programs and resources provided by Independent Youth (IY) enable students to develop an entrepreneurial mindset while preparing them for future successes.
This summer, IY is kicking off an exciting new program called the Youth Entrepreneurial Academy (). This course is focused on teaching students who are interested in starting their own business. will teach the first basic steps of entrepreneurial business development in an interactive format.
The 2011 will be taught by Independent Youth’s Founder Tanya J. Hamilton M.B.A. As a student, participants build confidence while increasing leadership skills, gain creative problem solving skills and learn financial literacy. The program includes lectures on various facets of entrepreneurship, IY student workbook and class pack, a community entrepreneur guest speaker, an entrepreneur as a mentor, and business plan, marketing collateral and a business web page upon program completion.
Matt Adams, Jenks High School Student has been working with IY while starting his T-shirt business called Forward Movement. “IY has been so helpful for me, it’s nice to have someone there for me that knows business. So many aspects of having your own business is not taught in schools, that’s why I’m glad that I have the help of Independent Youth and Tonya. There is a lot that I am still learning about the business aspect of entrepreneurship, but in the end it’s all about Forward Movement!”
Independent Youth’s mission is to generate entrepreneurial awareness and understanding among youth through an array of educational programs and hands-on experiences.
