Oklahoma State Headed To 2012 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl
The Oklahoma State Cowboys will conclude the 2011 football season by participating in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 2 in Glendale, Ariz. The Cowboys’ opponent will be the Stanford Cardinal.
The bowl picture came into focus after the announcement of the final Bowl Championship Series standings Sunday evening. Oklahoma State finished a school-best third in the , narrowly missing making an appearance in the national championship game.
“We’re very excited to represent the Big 12 Conference in the 2012 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl,” said Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy. “This game has a strong reputation for its student-athlete experience, and it’s a wonderful travel destination for our fans.
“Stanford has been one of the best teams in the country over the past two seasons and will provide a great challenge for our team.”
The appearance will be the first for in a Bowl Championship Series game, but it will be Oklahoma State’s second trip to the Fiesta Bowl as the Cowboys knocked off Brigham Young in the 1974 Fiesta Bowl played in Tempe, Ariz.
will be facing a Pac-12 opponent for the second-straight postseason as the Cowboys knocked off Arizona in the 2010 Valero Alamo Bowl. and Stanford have never met on the football field.
The Cowboys punched their bowl ticket with Saturday’s 44-10 win over Oklahoma, clinching OSU’s first Big 12 championship and second-straight 11-win season.
Stanford will also enter the Fiesta Bowl with an 11-1 record.
