Oklahoma State Run-Rules Cal-State Fullerton 16-0


CATHEDRAL , Calif. ( Athletics ) —The Oklahoma State softball team scored 16 runs in five innings to shut out Cal-State Fullerton in the second day of the Cathedral City Classic in Cathedral City, Calif. Julie Ward and Tamara Brown each hit home runs and combined for eight runs batted in.

Ward put the Cowgirls on the board in the first inning with a three-run home run to right-center field. Brown followed two batters later with a single up the middle to score Amy Graham and Megan Castle. added another run in the second inning when Katelyn Bright reached base with a walk and was advanced to third by a double from Ward. Bright then scored on a passed ball.

In the fourth inning the Cowgirls managed to score 10 runs off six hits, including Brown’s three-run home run, her first of the season. Freshman Taylor Smith pinch hit in her first at-bat as a Cowgirl and hit the ball up the middle to score two runs.

Senior Anna Whiddon started the game for and threw four innings, gave up only two hits, struck out four and walked three. She improves to 5-2.
