OSU Center for Health Sciences Noted Nationally

MOST POPULAR IN U.S.: According to a new study by U.S. News and World Report, medical students most prefer OSU Center for Health Sciences above the rest.

U.S. News & World Report ranks the Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences the most popular medical school in the country.

“OSU Center for Health Sciences () is dedicated to serving rural and underserved Oklahoma and our students embrace that mission,” says Howard Barnett, president of -Tulsa and -. “As we work to combat the physician shortage in Oklahoma, it is a testament to our College of Osteopathic Medicine that students recognize the quality medical education they receive from and the vast difference our physicians make in the communities.”

– tied with the University of Kansas Medical Center for the top slot of the 10 Most Popular Medical Schools. The rankings are based on the percentage of students accepted by the school who make the decision to attend and enroll in classes. The percentage of students accepted to those who enrolled at – was 85.7 percent in 2011. also experienced an increase in enrollment over the previous year.

“Many of our students choose Center for Health Sciences because of the family atmosphere they experience on campus,” says Dr. Kayse Shrum, – provost and dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine. “This high ranking speaks to the quality of our faculty and staff who make – a place that students want to attend.”

A total of 110 ranked medical schools provided acceptance and enrollment data for the 2011-2012 school year, with all of the top 10 schools yielding 74 percent or higher enrollment numbers.

Other schools rounding out the top 10 include the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina, University of Washington School of Medicine, University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine, University of Nevada-Reno School of Medicine and Harvard Medical School.
