OSU’s Garcia Named Academic All-District

Stillwater, Okla. — Chelsea Garcia, the starting shortstop for Oklahoma State’s 11th-ranked Cowgirl softball team, has been named the Magazine first-team Academic All-District 6, it was announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Garcia is the sixth Cowgirl in school history to receive the award and the first since 2006, when Jessica Hoppock was a first-team selection. Other first-team honorees include: K.K. McCoy (1992, 1993), Lauren Bay (2003), Courtney Totte (2005) and Hoppock (2006).
The sophomore from Moore, Okla., has maintained a 4.00 grade point average while majoring in secondary education at Oklahoma State. She is one of just three members of the 11-player District 6 team with a 4.00 , joining pitcher Stacie Townsend and infielder Katie Duhe of Southeastern Louisiana.
Garcia and the rest of the Cowgirls will wrap up the regular season this weekend by hosting the 21st-ranked Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Cowgirl Softball Complex.
