OU Gymnasts Finish Day One at Winter Cup


VEGAS – University of Oklahoma gymnasts Jacob Dalton, Steven Legendre, Chris Stehl and Alex Naddour turned in solid performances during Thursday’s qualification round of the 2010 Winter Cup Challenge in Las Vegas, Nev., on Thursday and are expected to advance to Saturday’s event finals at the Las Vegas Sports Center.

After the second session, Dalton leads the all-around with a score of 88.100. The Reno, Nev., native finished first on floor (15.900) and vault (15.950).

Naddour and Legendre are in sixth (84.900) and seventh (84.000) place in the all-around, respectively. Legendre finished second on floor (15.500) and vault (15.650), while Naddour finished third on pommel horse (13.600) and fifth on high bar (14.050).

Stehl also began the competition well, placing in the top 15 on rings (13.750), parallel bars (14.350) and high bar (13.900). The Houston, Texas, native finished the session in 16th in the all-around with a score of 81.450.

All four OU gymnasts appear to be comfortably inside the all-around cut, which will be compiled after the third session is complete later tonight. The top 42 gymnasts, according to the Men’s Program Committee’s points ranking system, will advance to the final competition, along with the top three gymnasts on each apparatus. The all-around and individual event champions will be determined via a combined two-day score.
