OU’s McGrone Takes Second in 200 at NB Invitational
CITY— Candyce McGrone improved her season time in the 200-meter dash as she took second overall Saturday at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York City. After running the fastest time in the event’s prelims, 23.36, McGrone improved in the finals with a time of 23.31 to finish second overall behind the winning time of 22.98 from Texas A&M’s Jeneba Tarmoh.
McGrone’s time Saturday is the third fastest in Oklahoma history as she entered the weekend with a season best of 23.41 at last week’s Big 12 vs. Challenge.
In the field events, Jasmine Simmons finished seventh overall and fourth among collegiate athletes in the triple jump. Simmons’ top mark of 41-11.50 (12.79) is her second best distance this season. The senior recorded a distance of 42-6.75 (12.97) at the Texas A&M Challenge on Jan. 15.
