OU Track & Field in Action at NCAA Indoor Championships
NORMAN, Okla. — Fifteen athletes from the University of Oklahoma travel to Fayetteville, Ark., this weekend for the 2010 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. The group accounts for 13 entries in the event, 12 individual spots and one relay.
The OU men enter the two-day meet held inside the Randal Tyson Center ranked 15th nationally while the women are 21st in the latest USTFCCCA rankings.
Oklahoma has one defending NCAA champion in Ronnie Ash who won the 2009 NCAA 60-meter hurdles title as a member of Bethune-Cookman’s team. Ash enters the 2010 meet ranked first nationally in the event.
Ash is one of two Sooners ranked in the top 10 of the 60-meter hurdles as Malcolm Anderson enters the meet at No. 10. Mookie Salaam is sixth in the 200-meter dash while the men’s 4×400-meter relay (Eric Bailey, Zach Dawson, Remuro Henry and Jarell Warren) is seeded 10th.
The men’s mile will feature two Sooners in Jacob Boone and Eric Harasyn while K.P. Singh rounds out the Oklahoma men’s group in the weight throw.
On the women’s side, five athletes account for six entries as Scottesha Miller qualified for both the 60- and 200-meter dash. Miller is ranked fifth nationally in the 200 and eighth in the 60.
Karen Shump and Tia Brooks are two of only three freshmen in the shot put field as the two are ranked third and 12th, respectively.
Jasmine Simmons will compete in the triple jump, an event she’s ranked 13th in, while Latoya Greaves enters the weekend ranked 15th in the 60-meter hurdles.
