OU Volleyball Season Ends in Regional Semifinal
UNIVERSITY , Pa. – The University of Oklahoma volleyball team had its season come to an end Friday evening with a straight set loss at No. 8 Penn State (-23, -23, -15). The Sooners finish the year at 23-11, the best mark since winning 28 matches in 2006. Penn State (29-5) advances to play No. 12 seed Duke in Saturday’s regional final.
Sallie McLaurin concluded her stellar rookie season with a team-best 11 kills and .417 hitting percentage. Brianne Barker had her 19th double-double of the year with 31 assists and 10 digs.
Oklahoma hit .217 as a team, the best hitting percentage by an opponent at Recreation Hall this season. Michigan previously hit .216 against the Nittany Lions on Oct. 2.
Maria Fernanda added 10 digs and Suzy Boulavsky had nine kills and had a career-high two block solos. Morgan Reynolds had seven kills, hitting .278 and Sarah Freudenrich closed out her career with one block solo and one block assist in addition to four kills.
The two teams combined for 30 ties and 14 lead changes in the match, including 14 ties and seven lead changes in the opening frame.
Blair Brown led Penn State with a match-high 24 kills and .583 hitting percentage. Kristin Carpenter dished out 45 assists and Alyssa D’Errico had a match-best 15 digs. Penn State .429 as a team and out-blocked OU 8.5-5.0.
The Sooners graduate two seniors from the 2010 team – Freudenrich and middle blocker Chrissy Disarro.
