Outlet Mall in Jenks Set to Open in 2021

The largest mall owner in the United States has confirmed it plans to have a new outlet mall at 101st Place and Beach Street in Jenks up and running by the spring of 2021.
Simon Premium Outlets, a retail platform of Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group, has acquired 51 acres of land for the project. The company also owns Woodland Hills, a regional mall that opened in Tulsa in 1976 and was purchased by Simon in 2002.
According to its website, Simon Property develops and manages premier shopping, dining, entertainment and mixed-used destinations. It owns or holds an interest in 206 income-producing properties across the country. One of them is a 330,000-square-foot shopping center it recently opened in suburban Denver.
In 2016, Simon and mall owner General Growth Properties purchased teen apparel chain Aeropostale for $243 million. This enables Simon to occupy space at its malls. The company also recently invested in an e-sports company that will open spaces at its malls.
The shopping center in Jenks is expected to occupy at least 340,000 square feet and create 400 temporary construction jobs and 800 full-time and part-time positions when it opens.
An agreement between the developer and the City of Jenks says the company will invest about $100 million in the mall. The city is obligated to pay Tulsa Premium Outlets a sales tax contribution equal to 1.5 percent of mall sales. That contribution, not to exceed $17 million, will offset an estimated $30 million the mall will incur in public improvement costs.
This project promises to be a major asset to the community and stoke what is already a hot retail area.
In 2013, municipal voters approved a bond initiative that devoted $7.5 million to develop and upgrade the interchanges at the Creek Turnpike and Jenks intersections. The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority appropriated an additional $10.5 million to expand the interchange at the Creek Turnpike and Elm Street.
