Owasso Awaiting World-Class Golf Course

LEGENDARY GOLF ARCHITECT: Robert Trent Jones, Jr., designer of great golf courses throughout the world, unveils plans for The Patriot, the world-class golf course slated for Owasso’s Stone Canyon development.

Representatives from the Owasso Land Trust and Patriot Golf, LLC recently announced the construction of the state’s first Robert Trent Jones, Jr. designed golf course. Named The Patriot at Stone Canyon, construction of the new course is underway at the Stone Canyon residential community located approximately 25 minutes northeast of Tulsa. in Owasso/Rogers County. The opening of the 18-hole, 7,191 yard, par 72 course is tentatively scheduled for May 2009.

“The Patriot at Stone Canyon is destined to become one of the great courses in Oklahoma and this part of the world,” says Robert Trent Jones, Jr. “The site gives golfers many gifts. From the rock outcroppings in the valleys and the running streams to the dramatic changes in elevation, there is a great variety of natural changing ambiance and drama. It will be a wonderfully maintained golf course and a great experience for golfers of every ability.”

Clearly one of the world’s elite golf architects, Jones, Jr. has designed more than 300 courses during his career, including projects in North and South America, Europe and Asia. Recent course openings include: Bro Hof Slott Golf Club, Stockholm, Sweden; Chambers Bay Golf Course, Pierce County, Washington; and Skjoldenaesholm Golf Center (Jones Course), Jystrup, Denmark. Robert Trent Jones, Jr. is known for preserving the natural beauty of a site and creating golf courses where nature works in harmony with the core values of the game.

“In terms of the natural landscape and scenic vistas, we knew we had something very special and other groups expressed interest in building a golf course at Stone Canyon,” says David Charney, president of Owasso Land Trust. “We decided to wait for the perfect opportunity and when Mr. Jones visited Stone Canyon and saw the topography, he knew instantly that he wanted to design this course. It certainly affirmed our decision to wait and The Patriot is going to be a world-class addition to our premier residential development at Stone Canyon.”

Headed by Bill Kubly, Landscapes Unlimited is building The Patriot at Stone Canyon course. Having constructed and renovated more than 700 courses, the company is the largest and most successful builder of golf facilities in the world.

“This is an A-plus site, exceptional in so many ways and challenging in just as many,” said Kubly. “The extraordinary natural rock structure and ravines that set it apart also point to some of the tests we’ll have to surpass in order to build the golf course. In the end, The Patriot at Stone Canyon will sparkle like a gem.”

Specializing in the golf industry, Rooney and Associates brought together the team of Robert Trent Jones, Jr., Owasso Land Trust and Landscapes Unlimited, and will provide property management services for The Patriot at Stone Canyon.

Views at The Patriot at Stone Canyon will stretch 30 miles and jagged limestone walls will climb to heights of nearly 125 feet. Superb golf will snake its way through beautiful tree-lined canyons and native grasslands. Each hole will echo its unique inspiration as it takes the golfer on a journey through one of Oklahoma’s most beautiful canvases.
