Owasso GNC Provides Free Flu Preventative

Cold and flu season is upon us, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is reporting no influenza activity so far in Oklahoma. There is still major concern that Oklahoma and the nation could face a flu epidemic based on the dramatic reduction in the availability of flu shots. To help address this situation, the General Nutrition Center (GNC) located in Owasso is offering concerned citizens free flu prevention information as well as products designed to provide immune system support.

“The flu shot shortage has a lot of customers very concerned, and GNC has had a significant increase in sales of cold- and flu-related products over the past few weeks,” says Gary Groom, franchise operator of the GNC store in Owasso. “GNC is dedicated to supporting our customers’ health, and while we don’t have a replacement for the flu shot, our scientist and nutritionists have prepared very useful cold and flu prevention information that we’re providing free in the store. We want to help Owasso residents stay as healthy as possible this flu season.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that every year five to 20 percent of the population gets the flu, more than 200,000 people are hospitalized from flu complications, and approximately 36,000 people die from the flu.

In addition to the free flu prevention information, participating GNC stores are offering discounts on speasonal support products, including zinc, echinacea, vitamin C, and Immune Defense, a product designed to support the body’s immune cell function and boost its natural resistance.

“It’s important for GNC to do what we can to help customers through this crisis,” says Groom. “The health of the people of Owasso is very important to us.”
