OSUIT Unveils Honorary Pistol Pete Statue
On Oct. 26, Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology held a dedication ceremony for the new Pistol Pete Plaza and unveiled a bronze statue of Frank “Pistol Pete” Eaton, honoring the man who has become the symbol and mascot of Oklahoma State University. The event was held on Eaton’s birthday.

Oral Roberts University Celebrates 50 Years
This year marks 50 years for Oral Roberts University.
According to a university spokesperson, the university, which opened in 1965, began with a call from God: “raise up your students to hear My voice, to go where My light is dim, where My voice is heard small, and My healing power is not known, even to the uttermost bounds of the earth. Their work will exceed yours, and in this I am well pleased.”
Cascia Hall Research Team Earns Trophy

Tulsa Tech Student Elected National President
The annual SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference is the largest and most diverse showcase of skill training in the nation. More than 6,000 students, including many Tulsa Tech students, competed in hands-on skills and leadership events during this year’s national conference in Leesburg, Virginia. Dante Williams, a culinary student at Tulsa Tech, was elected national president of the college/post-secondary division of SkillsUSA during the conference by fellow student national officers.
Tulsa Tech Aerospace Opens
Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett joined community leaders Sept. 14 to welcome students of the inaugural Tulsa Tech Aerospace Academy at Tulsa Tech’s Riverside Campus, 801 E. 91st St. Community leaders met the students and spoke about their journey to open the academy.

Instructor Elected to National Organization Board
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a nonprofit national career and technical student organization for young men and women in Family and Consumer Sciences education in public and private school through grade 12. Since 1945, FCCLA members have been making a difference in their families, careers and communities by addressing important personal, work and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education. Today, 200,000 members in more than 5,500 chapters are active in a network of associations in 50 states, including the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Chapter projects focus on a variety of youth concerns, including parenting, family relationships, environment, nutrition and career exploration.
Holland Hall Recognizes Successful Alumni
The Holland Hall Alumni Association and its board has announced Ken Levit as the 2015 Distinguished Alumni Award winner and Micah Fitzerman-Blue as the 2015 Young Alumni Achievement Award winner.
TPS Reduces District Required Tests by Half
Today, Superintendent Deborah A. Gist announced a reduction of the amount of time students at Tulsa Public Schools spend on district-required tests by 54 percent. Dr. Gist made the announcement at a Board of Education meeting, which was attended by teachers who served on the district’s Assessment Study Group. Dr. Gist accepted the group’s recommendations to curb over-testing by reducing the frequency of some tests, eliminating one entirely and by removing the district requirement to implement others. This cut the overall time spent on testing in the district by half.
OSU in Tulsa Wins Print Advertising, Media Awards
Oklahoma State University Marketing and Communications Services in Tulsa took top honors in two categories and received 11 awards overall at the annual Oklahoma College Public Relations Association conference in Sulphur. The annual OCPRA competition featured entries from public and private higher education institutions across Oklahoma.
Dedication Helps Student Build His Future
Although Tulsa Tech offers many different programs and opportunities for all types of students to succeed, students must be dedicated to learning new skills in order to truly make their own path. Carpentry student Jordan Dunkin demonstrates his dedication each morning by waiting for the 6:50 a.m. bus that takes him to downtown Tulsa, then catching a second bus that stops near Tulsa Tech’s Lemley Memorial Campus for class.
Bixby Graduates Named All-Staters
Bixby High School 2015 graduates Katherine Kramer and Bryan Lee have been named Academic All-State Scholars by the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence, a nonprofit statewide organization. The 2015 Academic All-State Class is made up of 100 top public high school seniors, who come from 74 schools and were selected from 558 students throughout Oklahoma. David L. Boren, chairman and founder of the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence, describes the selection of the scholars as “Oklahoma’s most rigorous academic competition.”
