MLK PARADE:
Ebony Clark, winner of the 2013 National American Miss Oklahoma Jr. Pre-Teen Pageant, takes part in the Martin Luther King Jr. Parade on Jan. 20 in downtown Tulsa. Ten-year-old Clark was awarded $1,000, trips to Hollywood and to Disneyland, and a one-year modeling contract. The program is based on inner beauty, poise and presentation. Emphasis is placed on the importance of gaining self-confidence, learning new skills, upholding a good attitude, and achieving personal goals.
MIDTOWN SPROUTS:
Locals shop during the grand opening of Sprouts Farmers Market on Jan. 8 at 4123 S. Harvard Ave. in Tulsa. This is the natural-food retailer’s second location in the greater Tulsa area, with a third planned to open in Broken Arrow later this year.
Women in Recovery Holds 10th Graduation
On Dec. 12, Women in Recovery () celebrated its 10th graduation. The program provides nonviolent female offenders an alternative to incarceration. Sixteen women graduated at the Dec. 12 ceremony, bringing the program’s total number of graduates to 131 since the program began in July 2009.

Tulsan Crowned Miss Oklahoma
Tulsan Kelsey Griswold, a Union High School graduate, receives the title of Miss Oklahoma June 8 at ORU’s Mabee Center. Griswold attends Oklahoma City University and will compete at the Miss America pageant Sept. 15. She participated as Miss Bricktown.
Tulsa Transit Goes Pink
Tulsa Transit recently began showing its support even more for Turn Tulsa Pink and the nonprofit organization’s mission by displaying the organization’s logo on the side of its large, pink bus. Tulsans can now be reminded daily of the many community charities that provide services and support to those affected by cancer.

The Assistance League has been named a 2013 National Make A Difference Day Award Honoree in recognition of its member volunteers collecting 113,101 books in a nationwide 94-chapter drive.
Jenks Market Expands
PRODUCE: After decades of operation under the “Jenks Farmer’s Market” name, the local market will now be called the Jenks Saturday Market and will offer increased variety for shoppers. In addition to fresh produce, the Saturday market will feature local crafts, baked goods, fresh flowers, herbs and food trucks. The market will take its new place in front of GreenAcres Market at 7th and Main in Jenks.
Bixby Farm’s Roots Still Strong After 60 Years
Bixby is, no doubt, home to its share of farming families. One very visible example of that is Conrad Farms, 7400 East 151st Street South.
The history of Conrad Farms officially began in Timberhill, Okla., in 1931 when Chester Conrad purchased his first 80-acre all-purpose farm. Conrad grew up in Kansas on an all-purpose farm, learning the trade from an early age. In 1938, he settled with his wife and four children in Bixby, where he believed to be the best farming land.
