Tulsa Million Miles, an initiative of Mayor Kathy Taylor’s Fitness Challenge, received a huge boost when Tulsa Tough’s Ride and Race event coordinator logged participants’ miles from their May event on the Web site. A total of 63,323.1 miles were added to TulsaMillionMiles.com, increasing the mileage to 396,209 and edging the health and fitness initiative closer to the halfway mark of one million miles.
OFFICIALLY STRONG: The Oklahoma Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society announced that the Bike MS Oklahoma Ride has been named the Official Route 66 Bike Ride in Oklahoma.
PILED UP: The 2009 Green Country Rugby State Championship game was a rematch of the previous year’s state finals between Broken Arrow Rugby and the Tulsa Bretheren. The Brethren won the 2008 title. It is a different story this season.
University of Tulsa tennis star Arnau Brugues was ranked No. 1 in the country five times and spent a total of 11 weeks in the top spot this season. The Barcelona, Spain, native finished the season with a 44-4 record, including 29 wins against nationally ranked opponents. He advanced to the quarterfinals of the Men’s Singles Championships recently for the second time in his career. Brugues was ranked No. 2 in the final national men’s singles poll released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. It is the highest final ranking in Brugues’ career and of any player in Tulsa history. Brugues completed the 2005 and 2007 seasons ranked No. 7 in the nation.
Personnel of the Tulsa Drillers are staying busy on and off the field. The players are in the middle of a long baseball season. Management is busy out in the community doing social projects and lobbying for the downtown baseball stadium, which will open next April. It is supposed to be one of the nicest and modern baseball parks in the country. All this action is unusual and very exciting.
The Tulsa Rampage is pleased to announce that two year veteran defenseman, Kris Vandenberg will advance to college. The Tinley Park native will return to his home state to play with the Illinois State University Redbirds hockey program beginning in the fall.
Rugged right winger Rick Kozak will be bashing bodies in the Center next Central Hockey League season as the Tulsa Oilers have acquired him from the Laredo Bucks.
The Tulsa Oilers of the Central Hockey League will continue their promotional partnership with the Tulsa Rampage of the Western States Hockey League.
The Rampage is a Jr. A team, the only Hockey certified junior hockey team in the state of Oklahoma. The Rampage will be entering its fourth season, playing its home games at the Oilers Ice Center, located at 64th and Mingo.

The Oklahoma Thunder football team is showing up on everyone’s radar. At the first game of the Oklahoma Thunder, Prentiss Elliott was already in the spotlight with scouts from the New England Patriots. Later visits have included scouts from the St. Louis Rams and calls from agents out of Kansas.

The Baseball team won its 12th straight Summit League Championship this summer. Since, the team has been showered with accolades. They made it to the post-season, put a couple players on the All-American roster and sent three to the Bprofessional contracts.

After four years as a member of Conference , the Tulsa Golden Hurricane has captured a league-best 25 conference championships since the league restructured in the fall of 2005. Tulsa has won 16 postseason titles and nine regular season conference crowns, including three Western Division football titles in 2005, 2007 and 2008.
