Hurricane Improving
After a seemingly shaky start, The Tulsa Golden Hurricane men’s basketball team is beginning to show signs of cohesion.
The squad played some tough opponents early, the likes of Oklahoma and others. These games may have had some impact on confidence. Lately the team has picked up some big wins and shown that they are shaking off the doldrums. Additionally, their latest losses are only by one or two points determines in the final seconds.
Ben Uzoh May be the glue that keeps this team together. Uzoh is an amazing player. The 6’3” Junior from San Antonio, surpassed the 1,000 career point mark this season against Texas A&M.
BOK Bruisers
Besides marked improvements on the ice, the Oilers are enjoying their new coach Tony Martino. Additionally, the Oilers recently celebrated Jeff Christian being named to the CHL all-star team.
Dupree Drives 66ers Upward
SHIFTING GEARS: Lately, the 66ers are seeing a glimmer of hope. It may be coming out of outstanding play from Ronald Dupree, Moses Ehambe or Derrick Dial. It is difficult to say, but the team seems to be playing with more emotion. A recent 22-point come back, which fell short by a last second point, demonstrated this team’s character.
Golf Expo Hits Tulsa
CENTRAL SWING: There’s never been a better year for a bargain and the Tulsa Golf & Travel Expo will have thousands to offer when it opens Feb. 20-22 at the new Central Park Hall at Expo Square.
TU Softball Touted in Preseason
The University of Tulsa softball team was picked to finish third in the 2009 Conference USA preseason poll, while sophomore pitcher Jordan Kinard was named preseason Pitcher of the Year and Kinard and junior outfielder Lauren Lindsay were named to the all-conference team in a vote by the league’s coaches.
Oilers’ Christian Makes CHL All-Star Squad
Jeff Christian will represent the Oilers as the all-stars take on the host Colorado Eagles Wednesday night. This will be Christian’s third all-star game. He has scored the game winning goal for the North team in each of his previous two all-star appearances.
Bradford to Stay at OU
Sophomore Oklahoma quarterback has decided to stay in college. In a press conference in Norman yesterday, Bradford addressed the media to announce his decision.
66ers Dupree Named to Second Team All-Showcase Squad
(TULSA) – The Development League announced today the 2009 All-Showcase teams. Ronald Dupree of the Tulsa 66ers was chosen to the second team after averaging 19 points, eight rebounds, five assists, 1.5 steals and one block in two games during the event.
ESPN Lauds OU, OSU, TU Bowls
Mark Schlabach, a writer for ESPN.com, has ranked all 34 bowls this season, and he has the Oklahoma teams at the top of the list. Schlabach ranks the Jan. 8 OU-Florida game as obviously the best contest of all. He has the OSU-Oregon game as number seven and the TU-Ball State Game as number nine.
Griffin Wows Tulsans
Nearly 13,000 Tulsa Golden Hurricane and Oklahoma Sooner fans headed to the BOK Center on Dec. 7 to see the first college game ever to be played in the downtown Tulsa facility.
Cascia Hall: Back-to-Back Champs
UNDEFEATED AGAIN: The Cascia Hall Commandos went undefeated and won a State Championship for the second straight season.
What’s most impressive about this feat is Cascia won the 2A crown last year, was moved up to 3A and did it again. Joe Medina, a Cascia Alum, became head coach in 1999. This makes his third State Title.

ORU’s Experience is Key
Coming off back-to-back Summit League Tournament Championships and NCAA Tournament appearances, the ORU women’s basketball team is ready to do it again. The team did not lose any seniors and has added two transfers, creating a highly skilled and experienced squad.
LaFortune Tennis Center Shows Improvement
As Tulsa area tennis players know, there has been a major effort, led by Tulsa County Tennis Director Melissa McCorkle, to improve the tennis facilities at LaFortune Park. This will serve to answer the question of the status of the project.
Legends Grace Spirit Center
University of Oklahoma and University of Texas football legends gathered together at Bixby’s new SpiritBank Event Center in reminiscence of glory days and to support Tulsa Sport Charities at the 2008 Legends in Sports Dinner.
