Tulsa World of Gymnastics Making a Positive Impact on City
Mention the word “gymnastics” and people’s thoughts generally jump to elite gymnasts competing in the Olympics. Names like Mary Lou Retton, Kerri Strug and Shannon Miller come to mind. Despite the attention brought to the sport by these supremely talented athletes, gymnastics is not only for girls, and it’s not a sport reserved only for Olympic hopefuls. Gymnastics offers benefits in several areas to youths of all ages, competition-bound or not.
C-USA Men’s Basketball Championship to be Held at BOK Center in 2010
The 2010 C-USA Men’s Basketball Championship will be held in Tulsa at the BOK Center March 10-13, 2010.
The first major sports championship event to be held at the BOK Center is expected to draw strong crowds from across the region.
“We are very proud that C-USA has chosen the BOK Center in 2010. Securing this agreement early shows that our state-of-the-art arena will be the region’s leading sports venue, and that we will book other exciting national-scale athletic tournaments,” says Mayor Kathy Taylor.
Downtown Ballpark OK’d
The Tulsa Drillers are one step closer to relocating to downtown Tulsa, as the Tulsa City Council approved on July 10 the funding mechanism for a baseball stadium in the historic Greenwood district.

The Iba Awards were created to recognize premiere athletes who have excelled in their sport and who exemplifies a high degree of citizenship in the image of Henry P. Iba.

University of Tulsa Announces OU Football Games, Basketball in Canada
The University of Tulsa has been full of exciting news as the 2008-09 athletic season approaches.
TU and the University of Oklahoma have agreed to a new three-year contract for football, jointly announced by Tulsa Athletics Director Bubba Cunningham and OU Athletics Director Joe Castiglione.

Heisman Trophy winners highlighted the Tulsa Sports Charities Heisman Celebrity Charity Golf Tournament at Cedar Ridge Country Club in May.

Ground Broken for Bixby Sports Complex
As part of the April 2006 $20 million bond issue Bixby voters strongly supported, the City of Bixby broke ground on Phase II of the Bentley Park Sports Complex, 148th Street east of Memorial Drive, on Tuesday, June 10.
