Tulsa Boat Show Returns Jan. 28-Feb. 3
The Tulsa Boat, Sport and Travel Show will return to Expo Square Jan. 28- Feb. 3 in the QuikTrip Center.
More than 460,000 square feet of the QuikTrip Center will be filled with canoes, fishing boats, pontoons, runabouts, sail boats, house boats, cruisers, boat docks, vans, tent campers, trailers, camping and fishing tackle equipment, water and snow skiing equipment, personal watercraft, camping resorts and lodges, free fishing seminars and more. The 2008 event expects approximately 60,000 boat, sport and travel enthusiasts.

The Tulsa 66ers High School Basketball Series began on Saturday, Jan. 19 when the McLain and Booker T. Washington’s girls varsity teams took to the court in the opening duel. This fun filled day of basketball excitement climaxed as the 66ers challenged the Anaheim Arsenal.

Three-time world long drive champion Sean “The Beast” Fister, above, will be among the celebrities appearing at the Tulsa Golf & Travel Expo presented by Jackie Cooper Imports Feb. 22-24 at the Quik Trip Center in Expo Square (Tulsa Fairgrounds). Champions Tour stars Ron Streck and David Edwards, along with Oklahoma teaching legend Marshall Smith, will be among the other celebrities giving free seminars.
Drillers’ Cole, Neely To Return; Schedule Set
The Tulsa Drillers and the Colorado Rockies announced recently that Stu Cole will return as the Drillers manager in 2008. It was also announced that pitching coach Bo McLaughlin will return to the Drillers and that former Texas League player Dave Hajek will serve as the team’s hitting coach. A third returnee, Austin O’Shea, will be back as the team’s trainer.
The University of Tulsa guard from San Antonio has become a crowd favorite at TU basketball games. TU will have a home game Wed., Jan. 23 vs. powerhouse Memphis.
Every Saturday in February will see a TU home game: SMU (Feb. 2), Southern Miss (Feb. 9), UTEP (Feb. 16) and Presbyterian (Feb. 23). Rice will be in Tulsa Wed., Feb. 20, and the home season will conclude on Saturdays in March with Marshall (March 1) and UCF (March 8).

Basketball Legend Marques Haynes Honored by Langston
The Sand Springs native has received his due. On Dec. 8, Langston University honored the legendary Marques Haynes by dedicating its basketball court as the Marques Haynes Court. The court is in the C.F. Gayles Field House, which is fitting. Gayles was his basketball coach from 1942-l946 while Haynes was earning his degree from Langston.
Quarter Midget Racing Celebrates 50 Years in Tulsa
The words “quarter midget” probably don’t evoke images of racetracks and fast cars, but for a small group of families in Tulsa, quarter midget racing is life.
Oral Roberts’ men’s basketball team celebrates their win over the University of Tulsa in the Mayor’s Cup game. ORU defeated their crosstown rival 84-70. This was the fourth win in five years for ORU. Since the first time the two teams met in 1974, TU has managed to win 28 of the 42 games played, giving them the edge over ORU.
