Goodwill Industries of Tulsa is celebrating 90 years with its continued goal to provide work opportunities and job training for individuals with barriers to employment.
The Rev. Wilkie C. Clock, pastor of the West Tulsa United Methodist Church, opened the first Goodwill office in the basement of the church, with Goodwill Industries of Tulsa being incorporated on August 3, 1927.

Founded in 1948, Tulsa Opera is entering its 70th year of presenting grand opera to the region, with its 2017-2018 season, beginning in the fall, to mark its 70th season.

The Tulsa Performing Arts Center is celebrating its 40th year since opening its doors in 1977. During its four decades, the has hosted a who’s who of performers and acts that include Tony Bennett, Michael Bublé, Kelly Clarkson, Steve Martin and Itzhak Perlman and touring Broadway musicals such as “The Lion King,” “Wicked” and “The Phantom of the Opera.”

KUDOS OF THE MONTH: Muscogee (Creek) Nation
Greater Tulsa Reporter’s February Kudos of the Month goes to the Muscogee (Creek) Nation for its development of River Spirit Casino Resort and Margaritaville Casino and Restaurant, helping to grow Tulsa into a go-to tourist destination.
The $365 million expansion project broke ground in 2013.
KUDOS OF THE MONTH: Up With Trees
Up With Trees is celebrating 40 years of planting, preserving and promoting Tulsa’s urban forest.
The nonprofit organization will celebrate on Nov. 5 at its seventh annual Green Leaf Gala, a black tie affair. In a tree-filled pavilion, patrons will be entertained with various events, including the “Bourbon, Bubbles & Bling,” “40 Golden Trees Dinner,” a live auction, games, a vodka bar, and dancing.

For Trust Company of Oklahoma, 2016 marks its 35th anniversary year, making it the oldest and largest independent trust company in the state. Trust Company of Oklahoma () opened its doors in January 1981. What started as a trust service to small local banks has grown to become the manager of more than $4 billion in assets to its clients.

The Tulsa Global Alliance () is celebrating 40 years of working to connect Tulsa and Oklahoma with the rest of the world as part of a broader global community. accomplishes its mission through Sister City partnerships, the International Visitors program, Kids’ World and at its annual Global Vision Awards fundraiser, which will be held Aug. 18 at the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame.
KUDOS OF THE MONTH: Tulsa Ballet
The Hardesty Center for Dance Education will open in August and serve the communities of Broken Arrow, Bixby and South Tulsa to complement Tulsa Ballet’s existing Brookside school.

The Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art is celebrating 50 years in 2016.
The museum offers exhibitions and educational programs that focus on Jewish culture, history, religion and art in order to accomplish its mission to preserve and share the legacy of Jewish art, history and culture.
KUDOS OF THE MONTH: The Tulsa Drillers
The Tulsa Drillers baseball franchise is celebrating its 40th season of play this year. Professional baseball has been played in Tulsa since 1905, but the Drillers franchise was born in 1977. Local businessman Bill Rollings and Country Music Hall of Famer Roy Clark purchased a Texas League team that had been playing in Lafayette, Louisiana, and they moved it to Tulsa.

Dress for Success had its start in 1997 and is currently in nearly 150 cities in 20 countries. The nonprofit organization opened its Tulsa affiliate in 2001, with 2016 marking its 15-year anniversary.
