Arvest Bank Offers Deferment to Government Employees During Shutdown
With the federal government shutdown, many consumers may find themselves facing an unexpected time of financial hardship. Arvest Bank recently announced that customers whose ability to make regular payments as a result of the shutdown on consumer and mortgage loans may be able to temporarily defer those payments.
Downtown Tulsa’s East Village District Ready for Growth
A downtown district is ready to make its name known.
“Development is headed this way,” says Stuart McDaniel, owner of GuRuStu, a full-service advertising agency. “This way” is referring to the East Village district, the area east of the Blue Dome district, with its roughly-defined boundaries as the railroad tracks to the north, 11th street to the south, Highway 75 to its east and Greenwood Avenue to the west, with a jog to Elgin Avenue from Fourth Street to the railroad tracks.

Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin will welcome North Dakota Governor Jack Dalrymple as a keynote speaker for the Oct. 9 2013 Governor’s Energy Conference in Tulsa. Gov. Dalrymple will share North Dakota’s Energy Success Story.

HUNGER CAMPAIGN:
Arvest employees are doing their part to support the bank’s two-month initiative to fight hunger and feed local communities, called 1 Million Meals. The initiative, which runs Sept. 4-Nov. 2, will provide at least one million meals to benefit the 53 local food banks and organizations that it has partnered with this year. The bank will accept monetary donations and nonperishable food items. Midtown Bookstore Expands
Used bookstore The Frugal Bookworm, 5932 S. Lewis Ave., is expanding into Owasso. On Oct. 1, the Needful Things Market, will open. The used bookstore, located at 12701 E 86th Street North, east of the Owasso 12 Starplex Cinema, will specifically focus on modern fiction novels as well as offer handmade gifts, antiques and trendy specialty items.

Siegfried Motor Co. Holds Long Family History
Kerry Siegfried, owner of Siegfried Motor Co. in Broken Arrow, didn’t always plan to spend his life working with cars.
Siegfried, a born-and-bred Tulsan, graduated from Central High School and then Oklahoma State University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. His plan to become an accountant, however, was derailed when his father asked him to become the third-generation owner of the family’s used car business.
New Funds, New Clinic
TU Law School is starting the 2013-14 school year with a $1 million donation that it received in April from Kathy Taylor, middle, and Bill Lobeck. Daughter Elizabeth Frame Ellison, left, was also on hand for the donation announcement.
Whirlpool Adding 150 Tulsa Jobs; Investing Millions
Whirlpool Corporation, a leading manufacturer and marketer of major home appliances, plans to add around 150 new jobs and $18.8 million in capital investment at its Tulsa facility beginning in 2014. The project is part of Whirlpool Corporation’s plan to invest more than $1 billion in its U.S. operations.

Area Gas Prices on the Rise
Average retail gasoline prices in Tulsa have risen 8.1 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.42/g yesterday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 321 gas outlets in Tulsa. This compares with the national average that has increased 4.1 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.61/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
