Southwood Celebrates 30-Plus Years
Southwood Landscape & Garden Center celebrated its 30th spring in Tulsa with a full day of festivities on June 8. Southwood customers were treated to store-wide specials, refreshments, all-day entertainment, informational presentations and children’s activities. A panel of Southwood in-house specialists gave a “Summer Survival” lecture, followed by a Q&A session, with tips on how to best prepare gardens, trees and shrubs for the upcoming summer. Throughout the day, there was a scavenger hunt for families with children, and local artists displayed and demonstrated their works.
Study Shows Newspaper Advertising Stays Strong
A new study from the Newspaper Association of America found that consumers were likely to make a purchase based on information in a print ad. Consumers reported that they used newspaper ads to plan their shopping or obtain coupons.

Littlefield announces five award wins at the 34th-annual Telly Awards for creative work in the Regional Television and Online Commercial categories. Littlefield won two of Telly’s highest awards, the silver Telly, as well as three bronze Telly’s.
Permit to Kill Bald Eagles Requested
The Osage Nation announced today its opposition to a wind developer’s intention to kill up to 120 bald eagles during the course of a proposed industrial wind project in Osage territory. Wind Capital Group, a wind development company proposing to build a 94-turbine wind farm between Pawhuska and Ponca City, has applied to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for an “eagle take” permit, which has never been issued to a wind development company in U.S. history.

Daniel G. Morris, D.O., and Timothy W. Holder, M.D., FAAFP, have joined the staff
of Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Tulsa (). Dr. Morris, an interventional pain management, will serve as the director of pain management services, as well as the director of the pain management fellowship with Oklahoma State University. Dr. Holder will serve in the hospital’s Quality of Life clinic.
Peters Named Green School
On May 24, Peters Elementary School was officially recognized as the first Union school to become an Oklahoma Green School – after students developed plans to grow more trees and cut energy costs. Due to students’ efforts, the school’s electric bill in March dropped $1,400 compared to last year.
