Oklahoma’s Young Athletes Break Records
Exceptional athletic talent runs through Oklahoma’s history. A few examples of Oklahoma athletes who have excelled in their sport and achieved international renown include Troy Aikman, Johnny Bench, Brian Bosworth, Bart Connor, Mickey Mantle, Shannon Miller, Warren Spahn, Jim Thorpe, Spencer Tillman, Wayman Tisdale, Nancy Lopez, Billy Sims, Ira Davenport, and the list goes on. Joining this prestigious group in the future could be two young athletes who are true “up and comers” in the world of track and field.
TU Launches Social Networking Program
The University of Tulsa athletic department announces the launch of a new social media fan engagement program where Tulsa fans can show their support for the Golden Hurricane and each individual team through a combination of in-game social media campaigns, engaging teams on social networks and earning rewards through the new Tulsa Golden Rewards program.
Statement from Parents of Tulane Senior Safety Devon Walker
Booker and Inez Walker, parents of injured Tulane football player Devon Walker have issued the following statement about Walker’s progress, “We are pleased to have completed the transfer of Devon to a comprehensive in-patient rehabilitation center to continue his recovery. We want to express our appreciation and gratitude to Mr. Bill Warren and the wonderful doctors and staff of St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, who provided immediate care for our son. We’ll be forever grateful for their devotion to Devon’s well-being. We will now focus on the next phase of Devon’s recovery and ask that all the prayers, well-wishes and support continue with him through his journey. We appreciate everyone’s understanding of our request for privacy as we focus on his recovery.”
Tulsa Rowing Club Juniors to Compete in Boston and the U.K
Tulsa Rowing Club Juniors () will represent Tulsa, and the state of Oklahoma for the 9th year at the world’s largest 2-day rowing event. Over 300,000 spectators will gather at The Charles River in Boston to watch more than 9,000 athletes from around the world compete at the 48th Head of the Charles () on October 20-21, 2012.
OU Faces Kansas State Saturday Sept. 22 in Norman
On Saturday, Sept. 22 the No. 6 OU Sooners face No. 15 Kansas State Wildcats in a match-up at the Gaylord Family Memorial Stadium in Norman at 6:50 p.m. OU comes off a Sept. 8 69-13 win vs. Florida A&M. Kansas State beat North Texas 35-21 on Sept. 15.
OSU-Texas Kickoff Set
The Oklahoma State Cowboys will welcome the Texas Longhorns back to Stillwater on Sept. 29 under the lights at Boone Pickens Stadium.
The Big 12 Conference has announced that the Texas- game is set for a 6:50 p.m. kickoff on the Broadcast Channel (Channel 25 in Oklahoma City and Channel 23 in Tulsa). It will be the first game for the Longhorns in Boone Pickens Stadium since 2009 after the Cowboys picked up wins in Austin in 2010 and 2011.
OKC Thunder Blue and White Scrimmage Headed to Bixby
The Oklahoma City Thunder will give Bixby fans the first preview of their 2012-13 team during the annual Blue and White Scrimmage on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. The scrimmage will take place at the SpiritBank Event Center, which serves as the new home of the Tulsa 66ers, the Developmental League affiliate of the Thunder.

Tulsa Takes 3-2 Thriller at Oral Roberts
Tyler Henderson slammed 28 kills, and Jordan Clampitt, Kellie Culbertson, and Diana Silva recorded double-doubles to lead the Tulsa volleyball team to a five-set (23-25, 25-16, 25-13, 22-25, 15-13) win at Oral Roberts Tuesday evening at the Kenneth H. Cooper Aerobics Center.
Tulowitzki and Woods Joining Drillers for Playoffs
The Tulsa Drillers will begin Texas League Playoff action on Wednesday night for the first time ever at ONEOK Field, and they will be doing it with some new additions to the roster. The two new players are very familiar faces to the Tulsa fans. Shortstop Troy Tulowitzki and relief pitcher Coty Woods will join the Drillers on Wednesday, and both have both played for the Drillers in 2012.
Big Expectations in Norman
University of Oklahoma Football Coach Bob Stoops speaks during the annual OU Football Media Day. Stoops is entering his 14th season as head coach with a compiled record of 139-34 and goals of a National Championship. The Sooners are ranked 4th entering the season in both major polls.
Tulowitzki and Giambi Play Roles in Tulsa Comeback, A Big 6-run Inning Gives Drillers 7-3 Win in Regular Season, Home Finale
Major leaguers Troy Tulowitzki and Jason Giambi concluded their four-day, injury rehabilitation assignments with the Tulsa Drillers Monday night, and both must have left ONEOK Field feeling good about their chances to soon return to the Colorado Rockies lineup. Tulowitzki and Giambi each collected two hits and helped the Drillers to a 7-3 comeback win over Northwest Arkansas. The victory came in Tulsa’s final home game of the 2012 regular season and completed a three-game sweep of the Naturals.
Key Changes for OSU
Oklahoma State head football coach Mike Gundy field’s questions from Tulsa media during his annual stop at the Renaissance Hotel. Gundy is entering his 8th season for the Cowboys with a compiled record of 59-30 . The team is entering the year ranked 19th with a true freshman starting quarterback.
Ice Oilers, Youth Hockey Gearing Up for Season
Only ten teams will compete for the Central Hockey League championship during the 2012-13 season. Playoff champion Fort Wayne, along with Evansville, have moved to the East Coast League. Dayton, Loredo and Rio Grande Valley folded. New to the league are the Denver Cutthroats and St. Charles (Mo.) Chill. St. Charles will begin play in 2013-14.

SOOIE: Fans do the Razorback cheer at Gusano’s Pizza to celebrate the kick-off of University of Arkansas’s football season. The event is organized by the Greater Tulsa Razorback Club, which will meet for every game during the season. The next watch party is being held again at Gusano’s, located at 9999 S. Mingo Rd. in Tulsa for the Alabama at Arkansas game on Sept. 15. Game time is 2:30 p.m. and fans are encouraged to show up early to ensure seating.
