Spears Travel Opens New Location
Spears Travel recently moved from its former location in the Eton Square shopping center in Tulsa to the Echelon Shopping Center at 81st Street and Memorial Drive in Tulsa. Owner Greg Spears cuts the ribbon at the new store recently. Also attending the event were members of the Tulsa Metro Chamber and Spears Travel associates.

The Tulsa (Court Appointed Special Advocates) Board of Directors has hired Maura Wilson as the new Executive Director replacing Pam Dose, who retired Aug. 24. Wilson was a Program Director for in Springdale, Ark., and most recently worked as a safety specialist for , Inc.

Local Businessman Hikes Appalachian Trail
Local businessman Brad Johnson, founder and owner of Lawn America, can now add “Thru-hiker,” “Compassionater” and “Author” to his resume. “Thru-hiker” is a name given to hikers who have trekked the entire Appalachian Trail, the 2,184 mile trail that extends between Springer Mountain, Ga. and Mount Katahdin, Maine.

Arvest Mortgage Breaks Record, Hits $2 Billion in New Mortgage Loans
Arvest Bank recently announced that, for the first time, Arvest Mortgage Company has originated more than $2 billion in new mortgage loans. When the $1 billion mark was achieved in June of this year, it was the earliest month the milestone was reached in ten consecutive years. The fact that Arvest Mortgage has reached the $2 billion mark indicates growing strength in the housing market, a robust environment for refinancing and an improving purchase-money market.

St. John Medical Center announces the appointment of Pam Kiser, MS, RN, as chief nursing executive and vice president of nursing. Kiser, a 25-year healthcare veteran, will oversee St. John Medical Center’s overall nursing service, as well as its daily operations. She will also provide management oversight for St. John Medical Center’s surgical and dialysis programs.
Bailey Medical Center a Top Place to Work
In July, Bailey Medical Center learned it had been named one of the 100 Best Places to Work in Healthcare by Modern HealthCare magazine. Last week, at a reception held by the magazine, Bailey learned it had been ranked #65 out of the 100 top places to work.
Business Growth Continues in Owasso Community
Owasso welcomed its second Taco Bueno location in early October. Construction began on the store, 13502 E. 116 St. N., in July.
“Bringing a second store to Owasso was driven by the community,” says Vice President of Operations Brian Aga. “The original Owasso store is the busiest store in the company, out of 152 stores.”
Tulsa Weekly Gas Price Update
Average retail gasoline prices in Tulsa have fallen 8.2 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.45/g yesterday. This compares with the national average that has increased 0.6 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.80/g, according to gasoline price website TulsaGasPrices.com.

Arvest Bank Fights Hunger
In September, Arvest Bank kicked off its 1 Million Meals initiative, which challenges bank associates, customers and communities to participate in fundraising efforts and make nonperishable food donations to fight hunger in the 90 communities that the bank serves. The two-month initiative will provide at least one million meals to those in need.
