Christiansen Announces Candidacy

Tulsa former city councilor, Bill Christiansen announced his candidacy for Tulsa mayor in June at Helmerich Park on South Riverside Drive. At his press announcement, Dan Keating introduced and welcomed Christiansen to the stage. Bob Brown Honored

COMMUNICATION LEGENDS: Bob Brown, who cut his journalistic teeth in Tulsa in both radio and television, has been inducted into the University of Tulsa Communications Hall of Fame. Brown, shown fourth from the left, was a 1968 graduate of the University of Tulsa. Beginning his career in 1960, Brown had gone from radio to and then on to anchor positions on stations in Houston and Dallas. In 1977, the American Broadcasting Company lured him east where he eventually became a regular on the news show 20/20, from which he retired in 2009.

American Airlines Veterans Hold Flag Retirement Ceremony

June 14 marked the 235th anniversary of Flag Day, which commemorates the adoption of the flag for the .

In celebration, members of the American Airlines Veteran Military Employee Resource Group (VMERG) Tulsa Chapter held a U.S. Flag Retirement ceremony. During the ceremony, VMERG members taught area residents, including Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts, how to properly dispose of their old U.S. flags, and they learned a bit of history about the nation’s banner.

Taken over, sold, and repurchased, Bixby’s SpiritBank Event Center in Regal Plaza continues to move forward despite roadblocks on its path to success. It began with great expectations in 2008. Remy Companies launched this impressive facility, financed by SpiritBank. Retail space, nearby hotels, restaurants and bars being built and Tulsa’s new basketball development league, Tulsa 66ers announced the center as their home court. However, the tide soon turned and Remy Companies found itself in foreclosure.
