Tsunami Warning System Considered for River

A tsunami-warning system may soon be installed along the Arkansas River as it winds past downtown Tulsa, officials said last week.

“At the rate these earthquakes are occurring and with their intensity increasing, it’s possible we could see one large enough to trigger a tsunami on the Arkansas,” says Col. Spillway Torrents, US Army Corps of Engineers. “The potential devastation from a tidal wave would be especially great if the river happened to have water in it at the time.”
