Chuy’s Tex-Mex Opens, Creates Local Partnership
Chuy’s, a beloved Austin-based restaurant known for its fresh, affordable Tex-Mex and funky, casual atmosphere, is crossing the border into Oklahoma with a location in south Tulsa. Chuy’s is located at 10808 E. 71st St. in front of the Cinemark Tulsa movie theater.
Military Appreciation Set for Mabee Center March 13
The Mabee Center, in conjunction with the Department of Oklahoma Blue Star Mothers, will host The State of Appreciation: A Memorable Night for Our Troops, featuring the United States Army Field Band and Soldiers’ Chorus of Washington D.C. for a free concert March 13 at 7 p.m.
Successful Boat Show
The Tulsa Boat, Sport & Travel Show was held recently. With 445,000 square feet of exhibit space, the show ranks as the nation’s fifth largest according to the Consumer Travel Agency.

Tsunami Warning System Considered for River
A tsunami-warning system may soon be installed along the Arkansas River as it winds past downtown Tulsa, officials said last week.
“At the rate these earthquakes are occurring and with their intensity increasing, it’s possible we could see one large enough to trigger a tsunami on the Arkansas,” says Col. Spillway Torrents, US Army Corps of Engineers. “The potential devastation from a tidal wave would be especially great if the river happened to have water in it at the time.”
Tulsa Performing Arts Center Celebrates 35 Years
Over the course of my time at the , I’ve had the opportunity to recount Tulsa Performing Arts Center history for the 20th, 25th and 30th anniversaries, and now the 35th. It’s actually a pretty cool story about builders and risk-takers — can-do people and arts lovers. How the was built is a model for civic activism. Together, a few strong leaders and an engaged community accomplished something extraordinary and lasting.

TASM Hosts Tuskegee Airman Exhibit
From Jan. 14 to April 14, Tulsa Air and Space Museum & Planetarium will host the traveling exhibit, The Test. This exhibit tells the story of the first African-American aviators to serve in the military of the United States. It shares the struggles in World War II combat overseas and against prejudice and racism in America. While it is a very exciting description about men in war, flying incredible machines, locked in mortal combat miles above the earth, it also explains the continuing struggle to make America live up to its ideals.
Jenks High School Alum Brian Presley stars with Kurt Russell in Touchback
Touchback, an inspirational drama produced by and starring Brian Presley (Home of the Brave, Borderland) opens in theatres April 13, 2012 from Anchor Bay Films. The film also stars Kurt Russell (Grindhouse, Escape from New York, the upcoming Django Unchained), Melanie Lynskey (Up in the Air, Sweet Home Alabama, “Two and a Half Men”), Academy-Award® and Golden Globe™ winner Christine Lahti (Obsessed, Smart People), Drew Powell (Straw Dogs, 1408) and Marc Blucas (Knight and Day, The Jane Austin Book Club). Don Handfield wrote the script and Touchback is his feature-directorial debut.

New owners Bryan and Shannon Hester aren’t really new to The Hamlet. Shannon’s dad, Gordon Pendergraft, owned the business in the mid-1990s and Shannon worked with him in the family-owned business.
