Tulsa State Fair Succeeds
The 2011 Tulsa State Fair provided patrons with an 11-day event focused on entertainment, educational attractions and the preservation of tradition through competitive exhibits and livestock shows.
These event components provided the Tulsa State Fair with the foundation to attract an estimated attendance of 1,123,000.
Broadway’s Memphis to Take the Stage
Memphis, the 2010 Tony Award Winner for Best Musical, and the show that’s currently blowing the roof off Broadway, opens at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center Nov. 1 for a limited engagement. Tickets went on sale Monday, Oct. 3.

I can’t stockpile nights at the theater in my “Watch If I Get The Flu” stack of films. Live entertainment is temporal, and that makes it even more precious.
Canterbury Lane a Store for All Seasons
Robin Benesh loves her commercial empire, all 1,035 square feet of it. Her gift shop, Canterbury Lane, is tucked neatly into a corner of the Shops of Seville on the northeast corner of East 101st Street and Yale Avenue. It has turned out exactly as she wanted it, a small and friendly place where customers can feel unhurried and get exactly the gift they want from a sales staff trained to give maximum support. It’s an old-fashioned shop where the regulars are greeted by name and a stranger is made to feel comfortable at once. “A lot of people like the human contact,” says Benesh, “so we make sure we take the time to give it to them.”
Oktoberfest Poster Unveiled
The new poster promoting this year’s Oktoberfest was unveiled recently at the German American Society Center, 1429 S. Terrace Drive.
The 2011 poster artist, Steven Grounds, was selected in February of 2011, from among five individuals who submitted conceptual drawings. Grounds created the original work using Gouache and micron brush-tip with Prisma color pencil on heat-pressed watercolor paper.

Tulsa Zoo Holds Educational Elebration
The Annual Elebration was held at the Tulsa Zoo recently as all things elephant were celebrated. Guests had the opportunity to meet Tulsa’s very own elephant herd and learn all about the fascinating creatures with fun activities.
Butterflies to Surround Tulsa State Fair Visitors
The Butterfly House has made a difference through exhibits such as the one at the Tulsa State Fair.
With a large netted enclosure filled with plants and pathways, beautiful and delicate butterflies surround visitors. Gently, children let them rest on their fingers and many find their way to clothing and hats.
Tulsa Looks for Cure
The Sixth Annual Concourse for the Cure will be held Oct. 2 to raise awareness and funds for the American Diabetes Association. Located in the Snug Harbor area of Southern Hills Country Club, the event will boast an array of classic, famous and luxurious cars for all to enjoy.
Oktoberfest to Host Route 66 Marathon Party
Organizers of the Williams Route 66 Quarter Marathon and Tulsa Oktoberfest have announced the Fahr-früm-kwitten post-race party set for Saturday, Oct. 15 at the finish line of the 2011 Williams Route 66 Quarter Marathon in downtown Tulsa.
