SportClips Student Athlete of the Month: John Carradini, Union High School
John Carradini is the January /SportClips Student Athlete of the Month.
Carradini was a four-year varsity football player for the Union Redskins where he has been part of three consecutive state championships. He primarily played fullback and tight end. He was named to the Academic All-Conference team this season.
GTR Cup All-Tournament Team Features Area Best
The first annual Cup was a success. The Cup is a high school hockey tournament featuring Broken Arrow, Jenks, the Tulsa Comets and Union hockey clubs and was played at the Center in December.
OSU Building Respectable Resume
The Oklahoma State Cowboys basketball team has racked up several signature wins while building their post-season resume.
They handled DePaul in the 76 Classic and walloped Tulsa at the Center.
Tulsa 66ers Streaking, Hottest Team in NBA D-League
The Tulsa 66ers are enjoying the greatest season in franchise history.
As the goes to press, the 66ers are coming off a 10 game winning streak. They are in first place in the D-League West Conference and up by 2.5 games.
Taylor, Christiansen, McInnes are MLS Draftees from Tulsa
University of Tulsa men’s soccer standout Chris Taylor was selected in the second round as the No. 22 overall pick in the Major League Soccer SuperDraft. Taylor was picked up by the Portland Timbers.
Oilers Need Costello & Combs
Once again, a double-edged sword may fall on the Tulsa Oilers.
Early last season, a sniper by the name of Rob Hisey was leading the Central Hockey League in scoring, igniting the Oilers to first place in the standings. When he was called up by Springfield of the American Hockey League, Tulsa experienced a dip that led to a fifth-straight season without a playoff berth.
Charles Clay to Play in Under Armour Senior Bowl
University of Tulsa senior Charles Clay has been invited to play in the Under Armour Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama.
The Under Armour Senior Bowl will be played at Ladd-Peebles Stadium and aired on the Network at 3 p.m. () on Saturday, Jan. 29. Clay has played twice before at Ladd-Peebles Stadium as the Golden Hurricane had back-to-back wins in the Bowl following the 2007 and 2008 seasons. Tulsa defeated Bowling Green in the first, 63-7, and defeated No. 22 Ball State, 45-13, a year later.
Justin Hurtt Provides Dunk of the Year Nominee
University of Tulsa senior guard Justin Hurtt’s thunderous one-handed slam against Oklahoma State on December 8, 2010 was selected as a 2011 Dunk of the Year nominee, announced today by sports television production and event marketing company Intersport. The 2011 Dunk of the Year is wholly determined by fan voting and will be announced on a one-hour “Dunks of the Year” special airing on April 2.
Sports Expo Set
The first ever Tulsa Sports & Entertainment Expo will be held Feb. 11-13 at the Exchange Center at Expo Square.
The long-running Tulsa Golf Expo will be merged into this exciting new event which will include games and contests ranging from free throw and football toss contests in the Boomer Town Game Zone to a Guitar Hero Contest sponsored by Best Buy offering a 50-inch plasma television to the winner.
