More State CPAs Financially Optimistic for 2010
Though unemployment reached all-time highs in 2009, state certified public accountants seem to believe Oklahoma is on the rebound.
According to the 2010 Oklahoma Economic Outlook Poll, which surveyed members of the Oklahoma Society of s, only 18.3 percent of respondents believe Oklahoma’s job market will decrease this year, compared to 48.2 percent from last year. Additionally, 36.2 percent said the state will see more jobs in 2010, compared to 14.1 percent from last year. Accordingly, nearly 40 percent (39.4) of respondents said Oklahoma’s economy would improve in 2010, compared to about 20 percent (19.9) from last year. Less than 24 percent believe the state’s economy will be “worse” or “much worse,” compared to more than 50 percent from last year.
Tulsa SCORE Helps Small Business
A Tulsa volunteer business counseling service is responding to the challenging economic situation now faced by area small businesses.
The Tulsa chapter of SCORE, Counselors to America’s Small Business, has added a program it calls “Tulsa SCORE Quick Response.” When a business requests assistance, the new program’s coordinator will promptly dispatch a counselor to make an initial assessment of the situation faced by that business. Additional SCORE counselors will then be called on for assistance as needed with their particular expertise and experience. The team will work quickly to provide the business owner with its findings and recommendations.
Tulsa Tax Revenues Continue Decline
The preliminary report from the Oklahoma Tax Commission regarding sales collections for the City of Tulsa show revenue sources for general fund operations have declined 11.4 percent from the previous year.
Mayo Grand Opening
The world famous Mayo Hotel in Tulsa held its formal grand opening Dec. 3. Welcoming guests were Director of Sales Candace Taylor and General Manager Wesley Ludloff. The Broken Arrow native graduated cum laude in 2006 from Oral Roberts University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in mass media communications with emphases in PR and advertising.
