Organ Recipient Competes in Games
TULSAN IN SPAIN: Karen Hoyt, left, of Tulsa, was one of two Oklahoma women who represented the state in the 30th World Transplant Games in Malaga, Spain, held June 25-July 2. Participating with her was Stephanie Baker, of Talala, Oklahoma. The World Transplant Games is a multi-sport festival for individuals who have undergone lifesaving transplant surgeries. Hoyt competed in the 5K run, cycling and 3,000 meter walk/run. More than 180 athletes from across the nation competed in the games, a competition that brings athletes from more than 60 countries. Hoyt received a liver transplant after struggling with end stage liver failure, Hepatitis C and a cancerous tumor on her liver. She participated in her first Transplant Games of America with Team Oklahoma in 2016.
Cox Retail Store Opens on B.A.’s Hillside Drive
The latest Cox Communications store opened on July 14 in Broken Arrow at 866 E. Hillside Dr.
“Broken Arrow has not had a Cox retail presence in the city since 2012,” says store owner Ted Andress, who has been partnered with Cox since 2011.
St. John Rehab Center Opens Aug. 1
In July, St. John Health System and HealthSouth Corporation celebrated the new Broken Arrow hospital, St. John Rehabilitation Hospital, affiliated with HealthSouth, which will open to patients on Aug. 1. The 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital is located at 1200 W. Albany Dr. in Broken Arrow.
