Polar Plunge
What is a Polar Plunge? A Polar Plunge is a fundraising challenge made to an individual or group challenging them to dive into a cold body of water in order to raise money for Special Olympics. Each participant collects pledges from family, friends and businesses in the hopes of raising money for the local Program. Then, on a select day, they “take the plunge” in the cold water to benefit Special Olympics.
Blue Christmas
Kansas City based blues band Leveetown played the annual Blues Society of Tulsa Christmas party at The Vault in Owasso. Bill Martin, president of the Blues Society of Tulsa, gave away several gifts to members including an acoustic guitar with signatures of many blues musicians.

Price Tower Exhibit
Price Tower Arts Center, 510 Dewey Ave. in Bartlesville., has a new exhibition, “Fallingwater en Perspectiva: Félix de la Concha Paints Frank Lloyd Wright’s House on the Waterfall,” on display for the public from Jan. 16 to April 26, 2009. The exhibition will consist of 50 paintings, a model of Fallingwater and a 10-minute short film made possible in part by the Oklahoma Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Mayfest Seeks Collegiate Artists
Tulsa International Mayfest is seeking entries from area college students to participate in the Mayfest Exhibition of College Artists. The visual arts exhibition will be held in the Park Centre lobby from May 14-17.

N.E. Oklahoma Represented at National Triathlon
Jocelyn Wood, director of marketing for Tulsa Global Alliance, is placing in the top tiers of regional and national Xterra races. She competed in her first Xterra USA Championship at Lake Tahoe, Nev., Oct. 5, and placed third in her age group, which qualified her for the World Championship in Maui, Hawaii.

Stars Go Dim will give fans a hint of what’s to come when they play songs from their debut CD “Love Gone Mad” at their EP release party Nov. 24 at the Marquee, 222 N. Main St., with Josiah Leming. The CD is due out in March.

Obama Art
Three Tulsa artists, from left, Bruce Benjamin, Heaven L. Starr and J Quillian displayed their Obama art at the Obama watch party at the Jazz Hall of Fame, Nov. 4.
They are now collaborating on a project that depicts the 1921 Tulsa Race Riot with a multiple panel mural.

Larry the Cable Guy Coming to BOK Center
The man who added the catchphrase “Git-R-Done” to the American lexicon is coming to the BOK Center Friday, Feb. 13 at 8 p.m.
Dan Whitney, known better as Larry The Cable Guy, has proven to be one of the most successful comics. Whitney’s latest film, “Witless Protection” was released on DVD in early June. In it he stars as a sheriff along with co-stars Ivana Milicevic and Jenny McCarthy.
