At the Oklahoma Conference for Community and Justice’s (OCCJ) annual awards dinner held recently at Tulsa’s Renaissance Hotel, Steve Malcolm, chairman, president and CEO of Williams Cos. Inc., was handed an award honoring the company he heads for its generous support of OCCJ’s mission to fight bias, bigotry and racism through educational programs and projects that promote respect and understanding among all people. It was another page for a Tulsa company’s storied past of community support and involvement. Williams, as it is now branded, is a nearly century old locally owned and managed international company that has not only grown up with its home office city, it has been instrumental in developing much of the city’s character and self image.

Greater Tulsa Reporter Wins Four National Awards
The Greater Tulsa Reporter Newspapers received four coveted national awards from the Independent Free Papers of America at the IFPA annual conference, held this year in Hershey, Pa. Sept. 21-23. The GTR Newspapers also won four national awards at last year’s annual conference, held in Minneapolis.
The GTR Newspapers, established in 1993, include the Union Boundary, Jenks Gazette, Tulsa Free Press, Owasso Rambler, Broken Arrow Express and Bixby Breeze.

The Tulsa Metro Chamber announced on Oct. 6 a buy-local campaign focused on returning out-of-area business purchases to the Tulsa region.
“An estimated $10.6 billion leaves the local economy each year, which is more than $29 million each day,” said Lynda Wingo, executive director of Miss Helen’s Private School and the Chamber’s vice chairman of the Board for Small Business. “We have more than 35,000 businesses in the Tulsa seven-county MSA, all unique in products and services.”
