Pill Box Pharmacy Creates Hometown Feel in Bixby

As technology continues to grow and further affect humans’ daily life, one area of the shopping experience that is often lost is quality customer service, says April Wight, co-owner of Pill Box Pharmacy, 12800 S. Memorial Dr.
Wight and business partner Carla Pilkington opened Pill Box Pharmacy in Bixby in October 2015, with the purpose of making quality customer service their top priority.
Pilkington opened the first Pill Box Pharmacy four years ago in Sapulpa. She has over 30 years experience as a pharmacist, spending most of those years working for a big box pharmacy before deciding to open an independent pharmacy with the focus of providing a locally-owned full-service retail pharmacy with a high customer service standard.
After Wight, a Bixby resident, met Pilkington, they decided to expand Pilkington’s business into Bixby.
Wight, who is co-owner and manager of the Bixby store, holds her doctor of pharmacy degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. She has 15 years of pharmacy experience.
“I live in Bixby, and (Pilkington) lives in Sapulpa,” says Wight. “That is the whole intent of the Pill Box, to create a business with a hometown feel, because it is owned by individuals living in the community.”
Pill Box Pharmacy accepts most insurance plans and carries prescription and over-the-counter medications. Additionally, the store features a gift shop filled with home decor, holiday, baby, and sports items, among other gifts.
The gift area provides customers something to do while they are waiting for their prescriptions to be filled, says Wight. Although, customers should not expect to wait very long, she continues. “Our goal is to be fast and efficient. We know how valuable our customers’ time is.”
Pill Box Pharmacy also offers drive-thru service.
Wight is on a first-name basis with the majority of her customers, something that can be sometimes lacking in larger pharmacies, she says.
“I have heard some people say that they don’t always get the opportunity to talk to their pharmacist because the pharmacist is too busy or inaccessible behind the counter. But we know that customers sometimes have questions, and we want to help answer them.”
Those questions may involve a certain medication, guidance regarding health insurance or Medicare plans, or questions about prescription transfers, which Wight says is the responsibility of the pharmacy.
“If an individual is wanting to transfer over their prescriptions from another pharmacy, we will take care of that for them,” says Wight.
