PSO Honors Girl Scouts at ORU-TU Game

Public Service Company of Oklahoma () hosted Girl Scouts, their troop leaders, families and board members at the annual -TU Mayor’s Cup Women’s Basketball game in honor of the 100th Anniversary of Scouting.
The annual -TU tip off was Nov. 9 at ORU’s Mabee Center, and the event is called PSO’s Anniversary Gift to The Girl Scouts.
Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma (GSEOK) were front and center in pre-game and half- time festivities in a celebration of the Girl Scout centennial. The organization, founded in 1912 by Juliette Gordon Low in Savannah, Ga., was formed with the intent to inspire girls with the highest ideals of character and conduct, so that they may become capable and inspired citizens.
A Girl Scout alumnae study, which was commissioned for the 100th Anniversary, shows this impact clearly, with marked advantages to the Girl Scout experience. The findings held true across all ages, races, ethnic groups and socio-economic classes. And the longer a woman was in Girl Scouts, the more pronounced her success. In addition to a variety of positive outcomes and viewing themselves as more capable and competent, Girl Scouts, when compared to non-Girl Scouts, are more involved in community and volunteer work, are more likely to vote, are more highly educated, and have a significantly higher income. In fact, women who were Girl Scouts six years or more have a 26 percent higher income than non-Girl Scouts.

Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma (GSEOK) is carrying this torch forward building girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place.”
Also, nearly 100 years ago, on May 29, 1913, an electric utility was incorporated and named Public Service Company of Oklahoma by Chicago-based Middle West Utilities. will formally celebrate its 100th Anniversary next year.
