PSO Offers ‘Bill Buster’ Home Energy Makeover Contest
TULSA, Okla., January 31, 2011 – Homeowners in the Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) service area will have the chance to win a free, state-of-the-art Home Performance with ENERGY STARenergy efficiency assessment and a grand prize of home efficiency improvements worth more than $5,000 in PSO’s Bill Buster Home Energy Makeover Contest, PSO announced.
All PSO residential customers who own their homes are eligible to enter the contest. Entries will be accepted February 1 to March 15, 2011.
PSO will select five finalists based on their homes’ electric energy demand per square foot and demonstrated opportunities for energy efficiency improvements. The five finalists will receive free Home Performance with ENERGY STAR assessments and be asked to submit a video no more than three minutes in length showing why they should win the grand prize. The videos will then be posted to the PSOklahoma.com/save website and all PSO residential electric customers will be invited to vote on which of the finalists should receive the grand prize: home energy improvements worth more than $5,000. The grand prize winner will be announced on Earth Day, April 22.
PSO is sponsoring Bill Buster as part of its recently launched Residential Solutions Program, which offers two ways to help residential customers improve the energy efficiency of their homes and save money. The Quick Energy Saving Test (QuEST) provides a low-cost energy assessment using a checklist and visual inspection of the home. Home Performance with ENERGY STAR involves a comprehensive, whole-
house analysis of energy usage. Both assessment options identify energy efficiency upgrades that can lead to energy and bill savings.
“Most homeowners know that energy efficiency means more comfort and less cost, year-round – but many customers may not know where to start with efficiency improvements. Our Residential Solutions Program was specifically designed to help customers identify steps they can take to get the biggest benefits in an efficiency upgrade,” said PSO Manager of Consumer Programs, Kathy Champion. “The Bill Buster contest is a great way to raise awareness of the program and the benefits of efficiency. By upgrading home energy efficiency, participating customers could qualify for rebates of up to $1,500 from PSO. That way everyone wins – even if you aren’t a Bill Buster finalist or grand prize winner.”
Home Performance with ENERGY STAR efficiency assessments for the contest finalists and the grand prize winner’s efficiency upgrades will be carried out by local Oklahoma contractors who are trained and pre-qualified to participate in PSO’s Residential Solutions Program.
