More than 20,000 people attended the 18th Annual PSO Christmas Parade of Lights in downtown Tulsa Dec. 8.
Parade organizers were delighted to have 2007 Miss America Lauren Nelson serve as Grand Marshal. She participated in the Parade in 2006 as Miss Oklahoma. Nelson, a student at the University of Central Oklahoma, is serving as the official National Goodwill Ambassador for Children’s Miracle Network as she raises funds and awareness for CMN and the Miss America Organization, while promoting her personal platform, Be NetSmart, Protecting Kids Online.
Viewers delighted in brilliantly lit floats, high school marching bands, dance groups, dog and equestrian units and an appearance by Santa Claus. Giant helium balloons were highlighted in the parade, including Louie the Lightning Bug, Rocking Horse Ornament, Toy Soldier, Snowman and Gingerbread
Man.
As a service to the community, First Baptist Church of Tulsa handed out free hot chocolate.
Downtown Tulsa Unlimited thanked the following sponsors: Public Service Company of Oklahoma (presenting sponsor), KTUL NewsChannel 8 (television sponsor), Tulsa Jaycees and the helium balloon sponsors, Burggraf Restoration, Conner & Winters, LLP, Oklahoma Central Credit Union and HSBC.
