Red Dirt Rangers Rock the Entire Family at the PAC

Tulsa Children’s Museum invites you to celebrate some of the best of the Oklahoma sound when the Red Dirt Rangers take the stage on Jan. 30 at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Fans of Oklahoma’s Red Dirt music scene are more than familiar with these pioneers of the genre. Celebrating 20 years together, the Red Dirt Rangers travelled all over the world. In 1996, after noticing how younger audience members liked certain songs, the band wrote some original tunes and added some old favorites to record “Blue Shoe” their children’s album.

Some of the toe-tapping songs you’ll be treated to at this family concert are “Tumbleweed Twighlight Zone,” “Black Dogs and White Dogs,” Nobody Else like Me,” ‘Tree House” and “Calm and Careful.”

“Performing our kids show is one of the things we love most,” said Red Dirt band member John Cooper. “There is no better audience than kids. They soak it all in, feel it with their whole being, and truly love music that’s presented for them.”

“Tulsa Children’s Museum Family Concert Series always produces shows that feature high quality music that kids adults can enjoy,” said Tobey Ballenger, concert series director. “When we found out that a local favorite with adults, the Red Dirt Rangers, also produced a children’s album, it was a natural fit. And with concert, you can get home early in the afternoon, instead of early in the morning!”

At each performance, Tulsa Children’s Museum will present hands-on activities for children.

“Kids and adults will dance to Oklahoma’s finest during the show – while an hour before and after the concert they can create their own version of that same Red Dirt sound in the instrument petting zoo,” Ballenger said. “They can play instruments and ask questions about music to local high school musicians – truly a hands-on musical learning experience!”

Also before and after the show, children will create self-portraits out of clay, ribbon, beads, string and found objects.

Tickets are $10 each and are available through the ticket office, online at, by phone 596-7111 or 1-800-364-7111 or area Reasor’s stores.
