The Castle of Muskogee offers a wonderful experience at the 19th annual Oklahoma Renaissance Festival. Attendees can expect to be transported to the 16th century as Castleton Village comes alive with more than 600 costumed stage and street performers, merchants, and artisans. The event will include daytime events, including the Queen’s Tea, the Royal Luncheon, and the King’s Smoker and after-hours entertainment at the Masqued Ball, the Pirate’s Feaste, and the Ceilidh.
Various acts are appearing on 15 stages found throughout the castle grounds. New performers to the festival this year are Wolgemut formed in 1997 in Berlin and performs historical music, Sirena, a group of singing mermaids, and comedy act The Swordsmen.
More than 130 Renaissance merchants will be on hand displaying their goods, including new artisans selling hair adornments, craft items, jelly spreads and masques. Also new this year is Hookah bar Absalom’s Dreams.
An expanded seating area has been added to the Tournament Arena, where knights clash with sword and lance in full-contact jousting. Other activities include live chess matches and animal conservation education at The Royal Gauntlet Birds of Prey presentation.
Families can stroll down the twisting, tree-covered village lanes filled with quaint shops displaying one of a kind, hand-crafted goods, don the latest Renaissance fashions found in the marketplace, follow the aroma of fire-roasted food, and take the kids to play traditional 16th-century games.
There is truly something for everyone to enjoy.
