Rivals Tubbs, Sutton Highlight Tulsa Sports Charities Dinner

It was a Who’s Who of college basketball at the Tulsa Sports Charities annual “Rivalry” Dinner, held Sept.17 at the Renaissance Tulsa Hotel and Convention Center.
Former OU and OSU head coaches Billy Tubbs and Eddie Sutton had a great time reminiscing about their exciting “bedlam” games. The emcee was Chris Lincoln of KTUL Channel 8.
Coaches attending the Legends Dinner included Bill Self, Billy Gillespie, Sean Sutton, Scott Sutton, Doug Wojcik, Jeff Capel, Nolan Richardson, Sherrie Coale, Kurt Budke, Charlene Thomas-Swinson, Jerry Finkbeiner and others. Athletic Directors in attendance were Lawrence “Bubba” Cunningham from the University of Tulsa, Joe Castiglione from the University of Oklahoma and Mike Carter from Oral Roberts University.
The Tulsa Sports Charities, Inc. was incorporated in 2005 as a non-profit charitable organization. Founder and CEO Thompson explains that no one is paid a salary, only volunteers work for TSC.
TSC has raised over $250,000 for charities and scholarships during the past five years.
Tulsa Charities that have benefited from TSC include the Tulsa Urban League, the Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges, the Hutcherson YMCA, Special Olympics, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Scott Carter Foundation for cancer research.
TSC announced that $102,000 was raised in for local charities and scholarships. Tulsa Sports Charities, Inc. is currently working on endowments for scholarships in the names of Bill Connors, Dr. George Maurerman and the Schusterman Family.
