Roger Goodell to Conduct Coin Toss for Football Game Spanning Four Continents


NFL Commissioner ROGER GOODELL will conduct the coin toss to kickoff USA Football’s “Team USA vs. The World” game, presented by Riddell, on Saturday, Jan. 30, at 12 p.m. ET in Ft. Lauderdale’s Lockhart Stadium.

USA Football’s 2010 Junior National Team – 45 of the country’s top high school seniors – will face a World Select team composed of the best players aged 19 and under from outside the United States spanning eight countries on four continents. Showcasing the world’s top high school-aged players from across the globe, the game will follow AFC and NFC All-Star practices. Admission to the NFL All-Star practices and “Team USA vs. The World” game is free of charge.

A member of USA Football’s board of directors, Goodell is the eighth chief executive in the NFL’s 89-year history. As the NFL’s popularity continues to grow, Goodell has focused his priorities on strengthening the game and all 32 NFL franchises through innovation and communication. He has addressed a wide range of issues, including player health and safety, the medical needs of retired players, personal conduct, revenue sharing, stadium construction, the re-launch of NFL.com, and international development.

USA Football’s “Team USA vs. The World” game will be televised live by NFL Network. RICH EISENDEION SANDERS and SCOTT KENNEDY will deliver game commentary. Sideline reporter STACEY DALES will contribute on-field insight.

The head coach of USA Football’s Junior National Team is CHRIS MERRITT, head coach of Miami Christopher Columbus High School. Merritt was the 2009 USA Football Junior National Team’s defensive backs coach that earned a gold medal in Canton, Ohio, this past July in the eight-nation International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Junior World Championship. The tournament was the first junior world championship in football history, drawing more than 40,000 fans toCanton’s Fawcett Stadium during the course of four game days.

JAN JENMERT, head coach of Sweden’s junior national football team, is the head coach of the 45-man “World” roster.

USA Football is the sport’s national governing body on youth and amateur levels and is the official youth football development partner of the NFL, the NFLPA, and the league’s 32 teams. Endowed by the NFL and NFLPA in 2002 through the NFL Youth Football Fund, USA Football is chaired by former NFL team executive Carl Peterson.
