Rogers State Basketball No. 4 in Top 25 Poll
The Rogers State men’s basketball team moved up one spot to No. 4 in the first regular-season edition of the 2012 – 13 Division I Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, announced Tuesday by the national office.
The Hillcats are tied at No. 4 with Pikeville (Ky.) each checking in with 246 points. The Hillcats improved to 10-1 on the season Tuesday night with a win over Avila (Kan.) reeled off a seven-game winning streak to start the season, including road wins against then- No. 7 Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) and then-No. 16 MidAmerica Nazarene. jumped to No.12 in the latest poll. Evangel (Mo.) snapped the Cats win streak and handed them their first loss on Thanksgiving break at the Classic. The Crusaders moved from No.21 to No.16 in the poll.
The Sooner Athletic Conference lists five teams in the Top 25, the most of any conference or unaffiliated group. Oklahoma Baptist moves up to the No. 1 ranking as it improved to 9-1 on the season after an 88-81 victory on Dec. 1 against Concordia (Calif.) in a rematch of the 2012 National Championship final. The Bison collected nine-of-the-11 possible first-place votes and 279 total points. Science & Arts (Okla.) and Oklahoma City were newcomers in the poll. was tabbed No. 14 while the Stars are ranked No. 22. John Brown fell eight spots to No. 25 to round out the conference.
Making the best jump within the poll, No. 2 Cumberlands (Ky.) improved 24 positions from the Preseason Top 25. The Patriots are a perfect 10-0 on the year. They posted 266 total points and one first-place vote. Sixth-ranked Columbia (Mo.) received the remaining first-place vote to go along with 236 points. No. 3 Lee (Tenn.) stands with 264 points, thanks to a perfect 9-0 start on the season.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conference and unaffiliated groups. The second regular-season Top 25 will be announced on Dec. 11. For more information on the polls, click here.
