On Going Opportunities:
Grandfriends serve once a week in an early childhood classroom by assisting the teacher a couple of hours. You will be interacting with the 3 & 4 year olds in game time, crafts or reading. There are 17 locations in the metro area and your service as a Grandfriend may be the most rewarding volunteering you ever do!
Hillcrest Medical Center has current volunteer openings in these areas: Heart Institute Waiting Area/Surgery Waiting, Gift Shop, and the Volunteer Office. If you are friendly and love to help others, then you are needed. Auxiliary dues are $5 a year and you receive a meal each day you volunteer! Volunteer benefits also include a 20% discount in the gift & flower shop and employee rates for the Exercise and Lifestyle program.
Oklahoma Life Skills seeks a very specialized volunteer. If you are a Special Education Teacher or have training in that area and would like to mentor Special Ed teachers at OK. Life Skills, they would love to have your input. Spend a few hours a week checking out some of their classrooms and then give your honest feedback to help the teachers prepare the Pre-K students for Kindergarten!
McClure Elementary is a Tulsa Public school at 1770 E. 61st St. The office gets very busy in the morning so an extra pair of hands and a smiling face will be a huge help any weekday morning ideally from 7:45am to whenever you want to leave….they would love a couple hours or so if you have it to give! If you would like to assist with checking in kids who are tardy and answering the phone, you will be needed once school starts on August 23rd.
Special Events:
It is time to sign up for the Tulsa State Fair! If you think you may want to volunteer in one of the many areas they offer to volunteers, then attend a Volunteer Sign Up on one of these dates: Aug 14-10am, Aug 16-6pm, Sept 11-10am, Sept 13-6pm. Location is the Culinary Training Ctr at 3902 E. 15th St. (Enter at Gate 5 off 15th Street). There are 19 different areas for volunteers, so lots of variety!
Kids World International Festival is Nov. 4-6 at the Exchange Center at Expo Square.
Hundreds of volunteers make this festival happen so sign up today to help in one of these areas: restore decorations (Sept. and Oct.), Set up event (Nov. 3), Info Desk, Hospitality Room, International Booths, Ticket Sales, Volunteer Check In as you can see, just about every area is open for volunteers! Shifts are about 3 hours each.
