The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary will host its 53rd annual Christmas Luncheon, Fashion Show and Silent Auction on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at the Renaissance Tulsa Hotel. Event chair Marilyn Wheaton and co-chair Suzette Birch were inspired by the upcoming Oklahoma centennial in selecting this year’s theme, “Oh! What A Beautiful Christmas!”
This major fundraising event always attracts a large crowd, and this year should be no exception.
The Silent Auction, coordinated by Marian Clark, will include many and varied items and services from local and national merchants and businesses, and begins at 10:30 a.m. A delicious luncheon follows at 11:30 with a menu selected by Director of Catering Trisha Kerkstra and Chef William Doyle.
Carole Lambert, KTUL anchor, will again serve as emcee. Essenchay Williams, a sophomore at Langston University and an alumnus of The Salvation Army North Mabee Boys and Girls Club, shall provide the entertainment.
The Fashion Show, set against an Oklahoma homesteader’s cabin created by Ron Hildebrant, will feature trendy apparel from Dillard’s and western wear from Cavender’s Western Outfitter, modeled by a combination of local celebrities and Auxiliary members.
Many “Oklahoma” touches will be found at this year’s event including “gushing” oil derrick centerpieces that were made possible by donations of money, materials, talent and labor from Mrs. and Mrs. Glenn Yaffe; Tom Collins of QuikService Steel Company, Jack Hollenbeck, drafter and artist; Sherwin-Williams; Paul King, Rick Huddleston, John Knapp, Josh East and Brian Buford along with students at Tulsa Technology Center. The Oklahoma-themed invitations and program covers were designed by Josh Anderson, an advertising design student at TTC.
This year’s committee members, in addition to Marilyn Wheaton, Suzette Birch and Marian Clark include Yvonne Sorrells, Marolyn Allred, Suzanne Young, Lucy Bennefield, Helen Monahan, Patti Morast, Stephanie Howerton, Gretta Thompson, Joan Loerch, Carolyn Morris and Auxiliary President Joyce Zeigler.
Individual tickets to “Oh! What A Beautiful Christmas!” may be purchased for $65 each, with tables of ten available. For reservations, call Helen Monahan at (918) 496-8554 or Patti Morast at (918) 622-0400.
Additionally, the special Guardian Angels Program includes sponsorship levels from $5,000 to $500. All Guardian Angels receive priority seating, program recognition and valet parking. Interested parties should phone Yvonne Sorrells at (918) 493-6450 for details.
All proceeds from this event benefit Salvation Army facilities within the Tulsa metropolitan area, including four Boys and Girls Clubs and Community Centers, the Adult Rehabilitation Center, the Center of Hope Shelter and the Center of Hope Transitional Housing Tower.
In addition, monies from this annual event provide camp scholarships for both senior citizens and needy children to attend “Heart of the Hills,” the Salvation Army camp, Christmas gifts for the children of the men at the Adult Rehabilitation Center and Easter baskets for the teenagers at the Center of Hope shelter. This year’s committee fervently hopes to surpass last year’s record of more than $73,000 generated by this fundraiser.
Please plan to attend this year’s fun-filled and celebratory event on December 5, and help The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary provide a beautiful Christmas and New Year to those in need.
