Simon Estes Educational Foundation to Hold Concert

The special performers will include Bass-Baritone Simon Estes, Mezzo-Soprano Denyce Graves and the Wartburg College Choir.

This year’s gala event, Simon Estes & Friends, represents an incomparable convergence of astounding vocal talent on a performance stage for one night only. Well-recognized for their individual classical repertoires, this diverse program will also include popular selections from Broadway musicals, sacred music and American spirituals in addition to signature operatic arias and duets.

Wartburg College Choir makes concert tours in the United States and abroad, and will accompany Mr. Estes in performing premiere works of contemporary composers. For nearly three-quarters of a century, the choir has continued to develop a reputation for a cappella choral excellence and was described by Cecelia Porter, music critic for The Washington Post as “a Mighty Fortress of Skill” in headlining a review of their Kennedy Center concert. Ms. Porter continues, “…a chorus trained with rock-solid discipline … the choir has impeccable intonation and excellent diction.”

The concert will be held April 27 at 8 p.m. at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center, Chapman Music Hall.

Patron reception with artists’ will immediately follow in the Kathleen P. Westby Pavilion.

All proceeds from this event benefit The Simon Estes Educational Foundation, Inc. and its mission of providing college scholarships, in any discipline, to academically superior, low-income Tulsa area students.
