Sooners Host Utah, Northern Iowa in Spring Festival
NORMAN, Okla. – The 12th-ranked University of Oklahoma softball team welcomes Utah and Northern Iowa for the Oklahoma Spring Festival this weekend. Friday’s first pitch against the Utes is set for 6 p.m. The Sooners take on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and Utah again at 4:45 p.m. The tournament concludes Sunday with OU taking on the Panthers at 12:15 p.m. CT.
Sunday’s contest will air locally on Cox channels 7 (Oklahoma City/Norman) and 3 (Tulsa). Tickets remain and can be purchased at the complex ticket office an hour and a half prior to first pitch. Live stats are available at SoonerSports.com.
Oklahoma is 5-0 at home this year and has a 258-41-1 (.860) mark all-time at the OU Softball Complex. OU leads the all-time series with Utah, 12-5 and holds a 2-1 mark in games played in Norman. The two schools have not met since the 2006 season and the Sooners have won five straight. Northern Iowa and OU have met six times previously with the Sooners leading the series, 4-2. Oklahoma defeated last season in Norman, 8-0 in six innings.
Freshman Jessica Shults leads the Sooners in a majority of offensive categories including batting average (.414.), hits (24), (32), home runs (8) and slugging percentage (.914). Oklahoma’s pitchers have combined for eight shutouts this season. Freshman Keilani Ricketts has a 10-3 record on the year, while sophomore Kirsten Allen is 4-0. Both have a 1.68 earned run average.
The Sooners close out a nine-game homestand Monday afternoon with a 5 p.m. contest against . Admission to that contest is free on Fan Appreciation Day.
